Default First Mod Complete (Ported intake and TB)

Mod fever has set in for me and my 2007 c6 z51.

I took a little different approach to the first mod, I went with a ported
intake from Cory Harris (ls2portworks . com / charris85vette, do a
Google search for him) .

Drove to his place this morning, he had an intake and throttle body
ready for me.

The process was very easy and done with simple hand tools, Cory took
pictures along the way to help those who also want to do this.

I was impressed with the work he did on both parts, lots of flashing
removed from the intake. The TB had many ridges removed and he
has done his homework on that part just like the intake.

The process took an hour or so to remove the existing parts and install
the new hand worked replacements.

Driving the car it didn't take me 500 yards on the road to detect the
feel of the TB, its hard to describe other than its like a dull knife that
has been sharpened by a pro, it felt precise and more responsive.

The engine revs up smoother, and as I drove home I jumped on it
a couple times, each time it felt better.

I was not driving it easy by any stretch of the imagination, but to my
surprise the DIC was showing 22.5MPG when I got home, up from 18.5
MPG of my daily commute. This despite the fact that I was driving it
pretty aggressive. Maybe the engine needed a little more air flow, or
the TB doesn't need to be as far open as it did going down the freeway?

Overall I could not be happier, very good bang for the buck, and
greatly improved throttle response with a nice pick up in performance
and a few more MPGs.

Next up:

- Cold Air Intake
- High Brite LED CHMSL (Brake Light)
- V1 Radar Detector

Great mod, should be worth 10-12whp collectively. Let the modding begin!

Cory did mine and this combined with the other mods I had done put me over 400 rwhp! Not to cast doubts but I think your increase of 4 mpg isn't real, but keep us posted after you put a few hundred miles on it with the mods.

I will post a follow up after a week of commuting, that will tell us if its
real. You could be correct, it may not be the full 4 MPG.

Cory did say my TB was one of the roughest he had seen, I am sure
he will clean it to perfection for the next customer.

Maybe the DIC is giving some skewed MPG readings, it sure feels like
barely any pressure on the pedal is required now at cruise.

Cory has just finished porting a new L76 intake manifold for me. I will get it back next week. Now to get someone to port/polish my L92 heads so I can get this all put together. Am waiting for an answer from Livernois re head work. I will have the LS2 intake that Cory already ported for sale as soon as this comes together.

When you put the LS2 Ported intake on, did you replace the intake manifold gasket with a new one?

I saw your intake on the bench, my god that has an opening big enough
to ingest a house cat!

What a difference from the LS2 intake, I wonder if they will run those
on the LS3?

The gasket is more like o-rings, they are very soft and pliable, we re-used
mine on the install yesterday.

RZone thanks for the comment, you got to see it before I did. Am looking forward to installation. Cory did a great job on my LS2 manifold, so it was a nobrainer to send him the L76.

No problem.

What all mods are you doing besides the heads and L76 intake?

Do you already have one of Cory's $120 (that is a steal) TB's on?

His bench is more like an operating table, all the parts were on ultra
clean stainless steel benches. We should call him Dr Harris!

Im all over this! When you consider his prices its a great deal.. and a way better then just putting an intake on the car. I would intrested to see how much power I could make with just a catback, xpipe, ported intake, throttle body, and a tune.

Sorry I'm not trying to hijack, but I got a question. What's exactly ported TB or intake? Do they have larger opening compared to stock? I thought ported TB or intake have some other inlet or outlet ports, but by looking at the pics I couldn't find any difference.

Just put my car in for mods...asked about porting the stock tb and intake..they had done testing on the parts individually and together and got almost no gain from porting when compared to stock. The high being a collective 6rwhp for a few hundred bucks(and tune was already in place).Didn't seem like a bargin to me, but neither does the f.a.s.t. intake either. They need to drop those prices before they get my attention.Just my opinion.

Did you see my dyno chart with the ported intake and not even tuned? The results were more than adequate for the price. The gains were all over the graph, are you expecting miracles?
You need to look at the graph, not peak numbers....

Here is my dyno:

Cory did mine. I figured why take the chance at ruining a perfectly good intake, if he goes through the plastic it's on his dime.....not mine I may be able to swap motors, heads and cams, but I'm no porter
For the price, you simply can't beat it.
