Default Need help quick, car fell on its face.

Well I guess something bad was bound to happen eventually.I was driving my car and everything seemed fine and then I was driving maybe 10mph doing a complete turn around and the car fell flat from 5 to 0mph and the active handling came on.Then I tried to continue moving and it would go up a couple mph and fall flat again, maybe 3 times before I could get it to the house only half a block away. The active handling message would come on each time and it felt like my tire was blown out or like I was dragging something big by the noise. The car wouldnt make it above 10mph.Then I restarted it a while later and just tried to move about 30ft above 10mph and it was going, but I didnt want to risk driving it.It really sounded bad when it kept occuring. What could it be? I was thinking my stearing column when it was turned so much maybe hit something,I have no idea.I did have headers and new calipers installed about a month ago if that could be any cause.Im wondering if this could be a symtom of the crank bolt issue since my car was in the range on my 05.If anyone had that problem please let me know how the car reacted.Could it be a brake problem? This is driving me nuts.Im thinking I might be best to flatbed the car to the dealer instead of risking driving it.Any help is greatly appreciated. The car is a 6spd if it matters non z51

sounds like the wire harness problem in the steering column causing the AH to go off. It is a simple fix with a wire tie if it is.

I'd use GM Roadside assistance to get it to the dealer. I had the steering column wire thing done at Kelley Chevrolet in Hallandale but my only symptom was my airbag light coming on. FWIW, the last time I had my car there for an alignment the service writer said he loved my headers! They also have Angel Diaz back last time I was there, he is an excellent Vette mechanic.

It's happened to me 2X in 21/2 years. Mr. Goodwrench could find nothing wrong. If it should happen again, shut the car off, wait a minute and restart. It will go away. The 2X's it happened I was making a U turn at slow speed. Seem that the traction control/ABS sensor(s) are sending a bad signal causing the brake(s) to engage.

Same thing happened to me last summer while on vacation. I called my mod shop and they told me to do the same thing c6vette did. followed their instructions and the lights went off and have not come back on since.

Thanks alot guys,I will try taking it for a drive to test. When I restarted it the second time it actually wasnt doing it but it was dark out so I didnt want to drive it anywhere.I will say it scared that crap out of me because the car has never had any big problems.I cross my fingers its nothing big.Nice to know angel is back at kelly.I have to take my car in for the top anyways,at 60mph my top creaks and makes cracking noises pretty bad.Hopefully its just the sensors, ive had a bad week with the car as some lady hit and ran on me while I was in the car.Luckily she only grazed my passenger rear and I buffed it all out.Anyways, thanks for the quick help guys,I will let you know what it was.

Well it drove fine to the dealer today,Im having them check it out anyways since angel is back in the shop.My top needed to go for the recall to and a 90 dollar oil change lol. They are all backed up at kelly chevy,so I have to wait at least a week before I get it back.I was hoping to make it to the track rental day at moroso friday. At least the car is driving to the dealer rather than having the alternative.

A week?? Forget that! Go get it, get up to Roger's for an oil change and join us Friday at the track! Finally some cool weather here in FL. Our DA might dip below 2000 for the first time in over a year!

mine did it they could find nothing wrong it wouldn't make a hard code. then they had a scanner hooked up turned of then on a few times and the tech two picked it up the abs computer wasn't connecting to the main ecm sometimes and that was the problem. the active handling is ran through the abs. they put three steering sensors in before and it didn't work and i always had the problem in turn accelarating after i had washed the car

Mine would go on and off at odd times, no rhyme or reason. Dealer said there was a loose connection in the steering column, they'd seen it several times. They said they put some anti-corrosion gel and I think a Zip tie on the connection and it hasn't been a problem since.
