Default Sound quality diff between nav and 6 cd

Can someone please tell me why the non-nav 6 cd bose systems seem to have a better sound than the ones w/nav? I now have my second c6 with nav, but I have brought 2 brand new '07s wo/nav home for the weekend and they both sounded better than the ones w/nav. Arent they both the same 7 speaker top of the line bose?............thanks

Speakers aren't the only contributor to sound quality. Nav units are made by Denso, non-nav I believe are Delco. They likely use different chipsets for CD decoding and different chipsets sound different. I know people think digital-is-digital, but there's a digital-to-analog conversion going on to output from the radio. It's in that step that things change. Different CD players sound different, different radio tuners sound different. That's why even though the amp & speakers are the same regardless of which radio you have, the end result is different.

You are probably right, but I am mainly talking about when I listen to theXM radio. Its just not the same as the non nav units.

The 2 non navs were '07s. The 2 navs were my '05 and my current '06. But, its been my experience that its the same everyone I've been in.

The only reason I asked about the year of the nav models was I read somewhere on here that one of the differences for 2007 was they improved the premium audio.

I've heard an '07 Coupe with NAV. Only "improvement" I can hear is that they have increased the output of the rear speakers. They were barely audible in previous versions.

Since XM sounds like such crap (and I'm an XM subscriber saying this!) to begin with... improvement is all very relative.
