I have a Z51 2005 C6 and my brakes are squealing everytime and all the time I brake. They are driving me nuts and it's embarrassing. The chevy dealer is absolutely no help and gave me a service bulletin stating "At this time it is considered a characteristic of the vehicle and there is no repair for the concern. Do not repalce the brake pads. The brake pads offered through GM SPO provide no change in material from the brake pads that were installed during assembly." This was dated 03/22/2006. I even called Chevrolet directly and they blew me off saying there is nothing that they can do, so just live with it. Does anyone else have this problem?? What can I do?? HELP!!!!!

they told me the sam thing. then they put a tsb out and replaced them with a new type and did it for free and i had about 8000 miles
The Z51 high performance brake pads have a high metallic content and will squeak unless they are "bedded." Check the C6 FAQ sticky for "bedding the brakes." It works.

When did you get your '05? This is an old problem. GM issued PIC#3320A to replace the brake pads, but it expired a while ago. I had mine replaced in Sept. 2005 and it worked like a charm. I think the actual fix was to replace the '05 Z51 pads with the '06 Z51 pads. The fix worked for me, but apparently didn't work for everyone.
My 07 Z51 has started to develop the squeak about 500 miles ago, seems to be getting worse. Anyone know if brake cleaner or something can be sprayed on to try and eliminate the squeaking.
BTW it is common for performance pads to squeak, at least that's what Honda S2K owners have told me in the past.

I have 16,000 miles on the clock, around 9,000 miles the squealing completely stopped. Don't ask me how. But anyway I would change the pads to ceramic and you also lose the dust problem on the rims.. Around 120 bucks.

I may try the ceramic brake pads. I also like the idea of a lot less brake dust. Does the dealer carry these? What type should I buy? Thanks for all the replies. Any other comments welcome.

I'm having a similar issue - I've got about 5k miles on my '07 Z51 and my brakes (or at least one of them) have started to squeak a bit. I only notice it when coming to slow stops with ligh tto moderate pedal pressure.
Any ideas? I'm due for an oil change within a couple of weeks, so I'll probably aske the dealer about it.
