The talk on the weight got me interested to look up the published weights:
E36 Coupe or Sedan 3175 is the published weight - 240hp
E46 Coupe 3415 is the published weight - 333hp
E46 Conv 3781 is the published weight -333hp
They are getting heavier no doubt and the only car that would have a chance with a base c6 is a modded e36 - a very very modded e36
Yeah, they keep "upgrading" with all the extras that people are demanding to be more comfortable than the competition. More sound deadening material, luxurious interiors, electronic controls and computers for anything and everything, more speakers for the sound system, and all the traction control devices that add componets to the driveline and suspension. Adds up after a while. You'd think a 911 TT was a lighter car by the size of it, but it's also heavier than a Vette.
Can a E46 M3 take a C6 in any capacity assuming professional drivers? Probably not. In the real world though, a good driver in a E46 M3 could make things very interesting for an average driver in a C6.
