OK, guys, this might sound like a stupid question, but the intake runners 4 and 5 are deformed (looking from the top of the manifold), and look nothing like all of the others. IT seems like they both got smashed. The box that it was shipped in, appears to have no damage whatsoever, so it might have happened during production. Are these normal? I tired to search for some close-up pictures, but could not find any taken directly from the top, uninstalled.

Are you looking at the fuel rail relief that is in the top of the manifold?

If they look like below, then they are perfectly normal.

When you open it up, you can see that it is just manufactured that way.

I've had the FAST sitting in my garage since the end of the summer. I teach and went back to work the end of August and haven't had the time to install it.

My FAST hasn't been ported. You can see in the picture where the thing is taken apart, I don't know exactly what they do when they port it. It's very clean and smooth looking already. I guess you could take out some material to make the walls thinner, but it doesn't seem like there is a whole lot of extra thickness there to start with.

Below are a couple of pictures looking into a stock OE manifold and one looking into the FAST. You can see the difference is pretty dramatic. There doesn't look like much can really be done there either.

Bob

Below is a picture of the FAST, and you can see a couple of small grooves. You can take away material to "Port Match" the FAST to your intakes, but don't take away any more material than the depth of those grooves.

Below is looking into the FAST from the TB mount.

Below are a couple of pictures of a stock intake, and you can see there is a lot of stuff that can be cleaned up in there for smoother air flow. It looks like somebody has tried to clean up the intake on the bottom.

BTW, here's a picture I found from an old thread about the FAST. It shows the firewall mod. I can't remember who posted this, but the installation was done by a performance shop, and they used some kind of goop to seal up the edges, but that probably isn't necessary.

Great posts Bob! Thanks for taking the time, very informative. I always wondered about the firewall mod, it doesn't look that bad.

Wouldn't buy a Fast until they have a model that fits without modifications to my car.

Before you mount that manifold on the car you will need to reapply the sealant to the outside perimeter to assure a seal against leaks now that you opened it. Orange rtv or the gold sensor safe one.

Good luck with the install.

I cut that thing the second the car got here. I dont see the big deal unless you are like those 'I'm keeping it like new forever' guys as if stock is better.

I hope the tuner that installed that firewall kit did it for a cut rate price or free because that's all it's worth. That's pretty ugly. Mine looks like it came from the factory with the LPE kit.
