I need to run guage wires behind the pillar post trim panel. I don't want to get too rough with it until I understand what it takes to pull it off. My C5 came off with a reasonable amount of prying starting at the outside edge. The C6 just seems to bend without any indication that its going to come loose. Is there some trick I nned to know about such as starting at the wind shield edge or sliding a stick in and tabbing on it?
Removal Procedure

Grasp the windshield side garnish molding.
Pull the molding away from the windshield frame.
Disconnect the electrical connector.

If you're talking about the pillar cover between the door window and the windshield, then yes, it just pulls away. It has two force fit clips, so you have to overcome them. It's easiest to open the door, start from the top of the cover and pry it away from the area it is covering -- the pry force should be toward the back of the car. From (an aging) memory, one one of the force clips is about 2 inches from the top and the other is about 4-5 inches below the upper clip. Also, the cover has a tab toward its bottom that fits behind the next panel that is below it. In other words, on the cashmere interior if you happen to have one, the pillar cover is black, and immediately below it in the door jam is a tan cover that goes into the kick-panel area. The tab inside the black pillar cover fits behind the tan door jam/kick panel cover. So, as you pry away the top two clips, then lift the pillar cover slightly upward so that the tab lifts out from behind the lower panel.
Do be careful, as sure enough I managed to break the support for one of my 2 force fit clips.
For those interested, here is what it takes to remove the pillar post cover, ie the trim piece that covers the wind shield post running from the dash to the top edge of the windshield.
Remove the 10" middle section right next to the side of the dash. It is located inbetween the sill trim and the pillar post cover. It is not visilbe when the door is closed. It is held by two spring clips that pull out easily. Be careful when first prying this up with your fingers as the out side edge has been shaped to a razer sharp edge. You must remove this piece because one of its spring clips goes thru and holds the bottom of the pillar post cover.
Next, the pillar post cover is held by three spring clips plus a section of velcro located at the bottom edge of the cover near the windshield. Its purpose is to hold the the cover level with the surface of the dash.
Start at the very top and pry back toward the rear of the car. The first spring clip is 1/2 " from the top. The next is 5 1/2' from the top. The last is at the top of the air vent. Once you have pryed these three clips out of the steel pillar, the cover is still held rather firmly by the industrial strength velcro up near the front tip of the cover. You can carefully use something between the dash surface and the cover to pry up or rotate the cover back and forth while pulling to the rear. The velcro will evenually let go.
Have fun running your pillar post gages or hiding your radar detector wires!!
Thanks Rickmd, those instructions came in handy! I knew it just pulled off, but it was nice to know where there the spring clips are in advance so you know where the pull.
