Default C6 Rim Weight CONFIRMED

I just received a set of C6 stock painted OEM rims.

Using a bathroom scale (super scientific), I weighed each front 18" twice and each rear 19" twice.

18" fronts appear to weigh 20.5-21 lbs.
19" rears appear to weigh 21.5-23 lbs.

Rest assured, there are not many, if any, aftermarkets that are reasonably priced that weigh that little...

HTH.

thats a pretty nice weight for a big wheel... Adding unsprung weight is a bad idea.

What would make you say that? The general consensus on the forum says 22-24 lbs. Now, I've weighed them and my numbers are right in line. Are the numbers too hard for you to believe?

Yep. It's hard to imagine that stock rims weigh so little. Of course, that's without the tires of course; but still...

Just the fact that the rear wheel variation was 1 1/2 pounds (about 7%) during the testing makes your scale suspect.

Nah.. Makes my attempts at holding/balancing the edge of a round object on top of a flat scale suspect. You have to work with what you've got; and like I said, it's inline with what everyone has said.

It is much more accurate if you hold the wheel and weigh yourself and then weigh yourself without holding the wheel. Less variables on balancing of weight and you should get much more consistant readings

Don't sweat these **** guys. For some reason many forum members just have to cut down a post. Anyway, thanks for you effort, the stock wheels are pretty light EVEN if you are 7% off. Sheesh.

True. I can re-do it if everyone likes. I don't mind while I still do not have tires mounted. The numbers are still within what everyone else has said and claimed.

Just as a point of some sort of reference, however abstract. 13x8 Rota RBs with 215/50/13 Kumho V710s weighed approx. 33.5 lbs each.

My point being is that it doesn't surprise me at all that we'd be pushing 55+ lbs each for our wheel/tire combos on the Vette.

I shipped a set of these wheels and weighed them on a digital scale and then verifed at the post office. Those numbers are about 5 pounds to light. My wheels were the base painted ones so there my be a difference between the options.

56 pounds confirms 23 pounds for the rear rims, because each rear tire weighs 33 pounds.

Did you have the base tires or the Z51 tires? Were the wheels/tires packaged in any way when you weighed them?

I agree with the original post.....justthedesignguy....you are correct....I measure my wheels and got the same result as you.

Its a little trickly to balance the wheel.....but it can be done!

Very light weight wheels.....C5 OEM are another 2 pounds lighter....and smaller....so works out about right I suppose.

So you weighed the bare rims at the post office before you boxed them up and got 5 lbs higher than I did for each? Boxes and packaging sometimes wind up weighing more than you think. When my rims came in on FedEx they were marked at 28 lbs; but the naked rims weigh nowhere near that.

In either case, everyone will have a difference of opinion. Weigh them yourselves and see. Search the forum for other postings stating near the same weights as I got originally. No matter.... My original point was that for stock rims, they are light and there are not many aftermarket that can come in near them without costing an absolute fortune.

They are not that heavy considering the cost. It's one of the reasons I haven't switched to another set of rims yet.

Can the OEM wheels be widened?
