I currently own a modified '01 z28 A4 and am a prospective new 07 or new 08 Vette owner. I particularly enjoy the relatively good traction in my current ride, especially from a standing start up to 40 or so. (Keeping out trouble with the law and community as compared to any higher speed driving, highway or not). I plan on an M6 when I buy a Vette, but I would be pretty dissapointed if it ended up that it is very difficult to drive the M6 well in similar circumstances. I expect it to be require somewhat more skill, but I would love to hear some views on this. I find it relatively easy to modulate the throttle through 1st/2nd gear in the Camaro even with a 3000rpm stall converter. I have 315 bfg kd's and would plan to immediately switch the new Vette to Michelin ps2s on 18x11s in the back (295s). Dean
Traction from a dig (standing start) will depend on a few factors, I too have an LS1 Z28 with a high stall converter (Vig 3600) and ride on drag radials (M/Ts) full time so I've gotten spoiled by having good traction to go along with it's strong acceleration as well.
In my stock C6 (automatic) on a cold day with low fuel in the tank and the traction control off it will spin bad when you nail it from a dig, no way around it without really heating the tires up good. Even with TC on you will get some spin at first as well but it's more controlled.
In the warmer weather (less power, hot tires, hot road) and/or with a full tank of fuel and a passenger or some cargo you will find traction to be better but of course the car will also be slower due to the extra weight.
But in a manual trans C6 I feel that a good driver can modulate the throttle enough to find a happy medium in most conditions.
I have the manual tranny and traction is decent if the tires are warm, in cold weather it feels like driving on an oily road. I can feel the tires struggle for traction even with TC on. They even slip after a quick shift to second.
I had a Trans Am before this and I can honestly say the vette gets better traction and can leave harder than the trans am ever could with street tires.
Something tells me changing to non runflats could make all the difference in the world.
Thanks for the replies all. I hadn't really thought about the help that traction control could offer. (don't have on my z28). lemans07, was your ta a 6spd or A4 ? So even with the runcraps, the Vette hooks better... stock horsepower in the TA?

Modulation is the key and I am still struggling with that piece at the track on the EMT's. For me now it is the principle of the thing, I want to find out if the car will do what is advertised with me at the wheel so I won't give up until I get it right.
