Default shift boot...

Ok, I have my red shift boot from Vette Essentials (it's very nice!). I have done a search and found pipedreams diy to change it out. But there aren't any pics or description on how to get the old one off!
Can somebody help me out here with this? Really want to get the new one on without destroying anything!

Go to RPI's website (they are a forum vendor), they have some good pic's for removal and install.

1. Remove shift **** using torx screwdriver for the bolt beneath the head of the **** that holds it on. I didn't own a torx so I used an allen wrench, which worked just fine. Just take care not to strip it.
2. Using a flathead screwdriver, pry gently between the existing shiftboot and pop the tabs. You will leverage against the console, which compresses the plastic ring in the base of the shifter. The boot is stapled to a plastic ring that has about 6 or 7 tabs located around it. These tabs pop easily with some gentle prying with a screwdriver.
3. Once the plastic ring is popped free, the boot and ring should slide off the ****. Pull the leather boot off by removing the staples. Staple your new boot on, but make sure you have it lined up the way you want since the ring only fits in one direction!
4. Pop the ring back into place.
5. Screw the **** back on.

I used Pipedreams' DIY, it's really easy and if you're gentle nothing will break!

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, after taking the screw out, the **** would not slide off no matter what I did. I realized that the factory peeps must have used an extra strong glue! I finally heated up the shaft with a candle holder and it loosened up enough that I could pry it up. All is good now and the Vette Essentials boot looks and matches the console and seat bolsters really well.
