Default Service Traction Control System...!!!

So....I'm minding my own business cruising around town and the "Service Traction Control System" message pops up. Shortly thereafter the shifting (2005 A4) becomes very harsh, both up-shifting and down shifting.

Any ideas?

Take it to the dealer before you damage any parts.

take it in before you have one of them unexplained incidents that cause a loss of control, either that or drive in the 'all off' mode.

i received a couple of those types of messages before i spun mine.

Back from dealer. Results:

The MAF went bad. Why this affects the way the car shifts makes me scratch my head.

However, the MAF was replaced and the car runs just like it should.

The moral of the story...if a butterfly flaps it's wings, don't buy a mobile home in Oklahoma.

glad u figured it out.
i ve had similar problem 4 times now, but the car seems to go normal after letting it sit for an hour or so.

After the 4rd time, i brought it to dealer and they replaced the throttle body, but about 2 months later it happened again.

Wouldnt bother me terribly except that it reduced engine power and it doenst feel safe to drive, so i wont drive it with reduced engine power.

Im assuming when u took yours to the dealer - the problem was still apparent?

good luck

Yes, it was VERY apparent when I took it in for service. The Tech checked all of the codes and they related to the mass airflow sensor. No problems with the transmission at all.

They replaced the MAF and cleared the codes. I ran it hard last night and it was shifting just like it should.

No major problems, and no charge for the fix. Service as it should be!
