Is there any performance gain to be had swapping the stock cross pipe with an X pipe with an otherwise stock exhaust?
On the C6 there is none!
If you look at the stock h-pipe it is a straight shot (no bends like an x-pipe) with a full (equally) sized h-connector that only has a few inches seperating both sides.
Only consider the x-pipe when adding headers mainly becuase your h-pipe will no longer work without some major re design and therfore is more practical to use the x-pipe from your header mfg.
IMHO - the x-pipe is more of a profit design than a performace design.
I wonder If the x pipe ends up costing power... i.e. I wonder If a car with LG headers that had an H pipe type design would actually make more power... It doesnt really make sense to me that forcing the exhaust flows to cross vs a more direct path would do anything but decrease power.
EDIT... General consensus says H-Pipe = more tq under the curve while the x- pipe can yield slightly higher HP. So other then reduced popping... why would one want to use an x pipe?
Have a new C6, Z-51, MZ6 and planning on getting, so far, the Stinger ll "Sports", 4" round quads.
You can always at the x-pipe later, of course. And you say, by keeping the OEM h-pipe, it increases low end torque? And the x-pipe yields more hp? Which is best or at least, prefered?
But, the the x-pipe also cuts down on popping, and smooths out the tone, right? And, is the drone bad on the one I mentioned?
Would certainly be cheaper, without the x-pipe, if it wasn't really needed. What's everyones thoughts? Thanks
