Default Valve noise!!!

After running my car on a "spirited" run last night, I noticed when I let it idle, my vales were ticking loudly. To tell you the truth my valves tick all the time. Only loudly when I have the hood open of course. Is this reason for concern, or normal for the ls2 engine. I need to mention this is my first vette, so I don't know what to listen for. Just wondering if I need to take a trip to the dealer???? Thanks

P.S. I run nothing but 93 octane if that helps. Heard anything less could cause valves to tick. I had an 5.3 engine in my last truck that ticked also, but not as loud.

Fuel octane has nothing to do with hydraulic valve lifter noise. Some valve train noise is normal.

You did not mention the engine oil pressure reading, or engine oil level on the oil level indicator (dip stick). Make sure both are OK.

Thanks for the input, what is the common oil pressure reading for these engines at idle??

I experience this same thing with my 07 1LT.

What is it? Is it normal and/or OK?

I get a little valve noise in mine as well. It sounds to me like the hydrolics pumping up. Kind of a whoosing noise rather than a full on tick.

Now, the Ford mod motors...THOSE things tick like crazy.

As per GM, the minimum oil pressure reading allowed on the RPO LS2, with hot SAE 5w-30 Mobile 1:

6 psig at 1,000 engine RPM

18 psig at 2,000 engine RPM

24 psig at 4,000 engine RPM

I believe most of us will have much higher "actual" readings and would not be too happy with the minimum oil pressures stated above from the Service Manual.

Some ticking is normal in most engines.

Well it is not that, on my ride to work this morning I read about 41psi. So I guess I am ok in that department. I don't believe anything is wrong, just not use to hearing all that ticking. It is not really loud, but if you listen for it, you can for sure hear it. I just had someone point it out to me the other night. So.... I was not sure if I should be worried or not.
