Drag Racing Newbie
Need hints on tire pressure, T/C, A/H on or off, use paddles or not, etc., etc. Air temp should be about 70 degrees.
Thanks to all in advance.
Run lower fuel levels (between a 1/4 and 1/3 of a tank) if you can, pump the front tires up to about 39-40psi and drop the backs down to around 26-27.
Both TC and AH off, do a good burnout and don't run in paddle mode, just keep it in 'S' mode fully automatic.
Pop the hood as soon as you get there and pop it between each run as well.
Run flats? Try 26-28lbs, TC off, AH on, stall it up to around 1000 rpm (hold brake hard) and leave when you see the third amber just start to come on.
Adjust from there.
LS1...I have seen your posts and know that you have some pretty good drag experiencewith stock A6. With everything off, how do you feather it off the line to keep your run from going up in smoke?
Tlewis...Thank you for your light timing advice! I am very impressed with the accomplishments I saw on your web page.

And part of the reason why I recommend a strong burnout (and I do go through the water box prior to the burnout to help get a good fast spin going as well) was to prevent too much spin off the line when I nail it full throttle off of idle.
Is this at No Problem Raceway by any chance?

1) I keep the hood open and push my car through the staging area.
2) I start the car and hold the traction button for 5 seconds to turn everything off. I also have the radio and A/C completely off. I place the car in S and do not use the paddles.
3) I drive around the water and don't do a burnout, I just do what most refer to as a dry hop. That is, I just nail it and spin the tires dry and do not hold the brake, just let the car lurch forward. If it's a cold day, it would help to back into the water box, pull forward, and spin the tires while you hold the brake with your left foot until you see smoke.
4) Try to line up in the middle of the track where other people have run from, you'll probably have better traction.
5) I stage, hold my left foot on the brake, and bring the engine speed up to about 1200 rpm. On the third (last) yellow I release the brake and floor it. If you have a good track, it will hook. If you get bad wheel hop, let off immediately. If the track is bad, try slowing rolling into the throttle. I also need to practice this technique to see if I can fool the Torque Management.
6) Keep it floored until the finish light, let off and slow down. Depending on the track configuration, be sure not to turn in front of the other car running to get off the track. Also be aware that if you are on the exit side that the other car could cut you off.
Good luck, be careful, and have fun. Just a word of warning, it's fun, but Solo 2 is a lot more fun.
