Has anybody out there installed or know someone who has used a "Turbonator" I've yet to hear or see one used on a V8. I went to their website www.turbonator.com -after reading -In principal & Theory the product sounds good. -"please don't ask me to explain" the site has it all, but its similar to the Varam Throttle Body spacer, except its a "Vortex Genorator" creates a "swirl" effect for better propagation & atomization of fuel into the combustion chamber-Don't have a clue -just Quoting what I read. Any and all opinions and expertise would help-Thanks
For me, its the Tornado Air Management System (what my friends and I like to call TAMS for short ) or NOTHING at all, increased fuel eonomy AND up to 50 extra horsepower!
It is absurd nonsense, snake oil of the highest caliber.
This thing simply introduces a restriction in the airflow before the throttle butterfly. Any swirl introduced by it is totally disrupted by said throttle butterfly. You could produce the same results with a clogged air filter.
In the carb days, introducing a swirl below the butterfly could help slightly in keeping fuel droplets atomized on their way to the combustion chamber. But that's moot today since our cars use port fuel injection. In other words, the fuel isn't introduced at the point where the swirl occurs, and when it is introduced, it is in the form of a high pressure atomizing mist from the injector directed on a part of the intake system that's hot enough to fully vaporize the mist before it enters the combustion chamber. So this sort of swirler, before or after the throttle body, does absolutely zero good. It does introduce a very real air flow restriction, however.
Note that a swirl, or vortex, in the combustion chamber can have favorable effects on flame front propagation. But that is produced by combustion chamber and piston crown shapes forcing the fuel/air mixture to swirl while the piston is rising on the compression stroke. No swirl in the air prior to the intake valve can survive passage through it during the intake stroke, or remain in effect as the piston goes down before rising again on the compression stroke.
So what we have here is some con artist misusing a concept that actually does make a difference when it occurs in the combustion chamber, can even make a slight difference if placed below the butterfly in a carbureted car, but is utterly worthless where this product is placed in a port injected engine.
Absolutely correct, Shopdog. What disappoints me is to see guys on TV shows like Two Guys endorseing this bullcrap. Common sense (which is a dying characteristic among Americans) should tell anyone that this pos could not help. I think it actually interferes with air flow. Fools install this thing, then probably drive more conseratively, then think they're getting better mileage. Ever seen the fuel line magnetizer?

Don't forget it adds substantial traction to the stock runflats on cold days at the track.

totally. I cannot believe Sam Memmolo, gearhead that he is, would stoop that low to endorse that kind of junk.
The only way that would save gas would be to duct tape it to the bottom of your right foot and drive barefoot. The sharp pressure from the amazing super swirl creating vanes might prevent you from applying too much pressure to the go pedal.
Ok thanks for the 411 - I guess its BULL SH*T But to the guy who thinks I'm a spammer to you! I'm a regular car guy just asking a question about an item I contemplated on using. NOW what about the Varam Throttle body spacer ? Is That effective for flow or is it BS Too? Thanks again
I have it from a strick authority that the Oil Companies have paid the US government $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 to keep the Turbonator off the market. I'm running 34 of them. I've got 4 on each wheel, 10 in the engine intake and 1 on each primary tube of my LG Pro headers.
I'm making so much gas mileage that I have to tow a gas tank behind me because the fuel pours out of my filler neck.
