Seems like it is taking forever...I'm thinking of doing a backup cam but want to keep the factory nav unit.....anybody figured this out yet?....haven't seen anyone talk about it in some time.
Someone on here has a pic of their interior, they have a stock nav unit and it has Dave Hill on the screen. I don't know how they got it to play video, but apparently it has been done. Wish I could give you better pointers to get you going in the right direction, but the answer is out there!
There is a company in San Bernardino County in California that will modify the factory NAV to play DVDs. It has been mentioned before so maybe someone will post the name of the company. If I remember right you mail your unit in and they modify it and send it back.
yeah I know the escalades and tahoes have been done so it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult but I still can't find anyone that has done for the C6..I want to black out the back window with tint so I really need the rear looking cam.
I did a search on this a while back and was blown away by the amount of work that seemed to have been done in this area. I think it took me about an hour or so just to read through all of the posts. I haven't checked it out lately but there was a while when this was being worked on. Those folks seemed to be making some headway but had not yet done the deed. I got the impression that unlike some of the other models this nav. was not an easy code to waltz right thru. If you find out any current information which reflects success please share. Not for a brother or sister model or another manufacturer but for this C6 navigation unit. I would imagine if enough money and/or time was thrown into such a project the breakthru would be easily done. Until that day comes I will read about the all of these major breaks that somehow just don't quite come to fruition.
I looked into this last April and this company in NY state says that they can convert your nav to also play DVD and TV for $550.00.
Little too steep for me, but their phone number is 718-763-7367.
Sorry never wrote down their website.
I am a firm believer in a little knowledge can be dangerous which is why I have not tried this:
From what I understand the way the NAV system knows the vehicle is in motion is a speed pulse wire from the trans to the NAV unit. Why not simply disconnect this wire from the NAV? Anyone out there with a little more knowledge on the subject care to enlighten me?
