FYI, I just bought new rear Supercar tires and dealer noticed two product codes. The old one is 406-527-506 and the new is 412-610-506. He found a service bulletin explaining the difference. The service bulletin states:
"The "Y" speed certification without parenthesis certified the tires to a maximum speed of 186 mph. The parenthesis mean that the tires are certified to over 186 mph, with the actual top speed specified by the tire manufacturer. In the case of these 4 new tires, the top speed capability is 205 mph."
The bulletin lists the new codes for the Supercar EMT and the GS-2 EMT tires in stock C6 sizes. They also mention that the old tires get discounted 40% effective imeadiatly. I will never go over 186 mph so I bought the cheaper old tires. The date on the bulletin is 8/31/2006.
I just went to a local Goodyear dealer in the Reno areaand asked for new rear tires. He checked with his distributor and found that they had 2 product codes for the Supercar tires. One was about $440 the other was $280. He then found the bulletin which described the difference between the two. He even gave me a copy. The distributor had 4 tires (2 sets) of the older tires left. My dealer said he was giving them to me at cost since they owed me one but the price on the newer product code is about the same price as tire rack lists online, so I am not sure if they were straight with me. Maybe they just don't mark up the tires very much.
