Default 411 gears

Is a 411 rear end a good setup? Or is a waste of money..Do I need these gears when I supercharge? I know it's a great deal of questions but i'm looking for the best set up for my car..Any suggestions. Help

Hi, welcome to the forum. Your topic is very common and the most efficient way of researching it or anything is to do a simple search by using the search buttom above the first post in each section. It has been so beaten to death that you may wish to just pull up so many threads and have hours of reading.

While reading note that the people without 4.10's are the ones that bash them and the people with them love them. I would only take advice on a mod that a person has and forego any opinions that arent based in actual first hand experience.

Road race guys dont like them and people with enough power to run faster than 10.5 on a track opt for 3.90's. FI guys with 700rwhp opt for stock or 3.73's.

Gear for your application. I suspect 4.10's will be the route.

4.10's do not affect gas mileage much if at all or top speed. You hit your top speed in 6th rather than 5th.

One rare note. I have 4.10's with the z51 manual transmission gearing and it is not overdone as some suggest it might be.

Spin put it the best. Look at your long term goals and your driving style then you can fit your gears around them otherwise chances are you will be pulling them out.

If you are adding a S/C soon then I would say to hold off on gears until it is in and you decide how you like it.

If the S/C is off in the distance and you want something now without modding the rest of the car then 4.10s would be a good addition, but you might have to pull them later.

I personally started with 3.42s went to 4.10s and H/C when I did 1/4 mile racing and then dropped to 3.73s when I got into road racing. Honestly I probably loved the 4.10s more around town then the 3.73s, but the 3.73s fit my current and future needs (future is a new 402)

410's are awesome, and make the car come alive. This is an absolutely awesome mod for the buck. I completely agree with Spin, this is one of the few mods that you find that people that have done that universally love. 6th gear is no longer a dog, much more usable. You can make the car crawl in traffic easier, less clutch wear, lots of benefits.

ps: if 410's are great, 411's must be even better

Spin and Wicked offer very sound advice.....It will save you from spending money twice.....Think about where you want to be in the end, start with your most bang for the buck mod, and slowly build until you're completely happy. That's the beauty of a car like ours, you can do anything you want to make your dream car a reality.

4.10s and a good tune make the car a completely different beast. I know a few guys that were intent on using the 4.10s as a base before forced induction, but were so happy with the balance and performance of the gears alone, they skipped on the extra boost. On the street, they are the most fun you can have with your clothes on

See if you can find someone local with them, a ride with them can answer a lot of questions for you. If you're close to LI, let me know, Ill meet up and take you for a ride.

Man, when he's right, he's right. I have the stock 3.42s in right now but will be going to the 3.73s when I get my N2O kit on (will be pushing 670 rwhp) as I want to be able to run 140 mph in 4th gear to get into the 9s in the 1/4. If I had a stock vette up to about 400-425 rwhp I would go 4.10 every time. Spin is ON TARGET.

3.90's will run in the 9's. Carteks R&D FI car has them. 4.10's allow a 134 trap speed with a 26" tiure so 3.90's will be about 5% higher. 140mph is a definite.
