If you have had an issue with a Callaway shifter please PM me. Let me tell you how top notch these guys are. The instructions for the install say that the shifter should be installed in a certain orientation. If you did this with my particular shifter, the stick would be on the wrong (pass) side. Now who am I to question the Callaway? For giggles and grins I called and it turns out 4 shifters left the factory with the "sticks" on the wrong side. See, this idiot knows what he is talking about. Anyway. Scott at Callaway wanted to collect some info about issues so he could build a file and get things corrected. So, if you have had issues PM me with your issue, your car info. and resolution. I know there were some reverse issues, mine does this too... very hard to get into reverse. I'll need year, milage, stuff like that. I guess they are trying to make sure the product incorporates for varibles like worn linkage and stuff like that. Great product, and incredible research and follow through.
Per Callaway, the shifter should be installed with the slot in the stick towards the rear. The bolted on stick should be on the driver's side. Funny that I called and he was like, "yeah 4 left with the shifter on the wrong side". Talk about knowing your operation.
I have an '06 C6 Z51 MN6 and had the Callaway short shifter installed a couple of months ago.
Callaway shifter was recommended by my HP tuner/shop.
It is awesome in every way. Shifts are solid and sure compared to stock. I have a hard time getting it into reverse, but only when I am moving forward. (kidding). No reverse problems here.
The reverse issue may be isolated to 2005 cars, or could be cars with lotsa miles or loose linkage. That's part of the inquiry. They want to get to the bottom of ANY issues.

i have an 05 and I have to damn near drop kick it to go over to reverse

I had actually ordered one of these and called back and cancelled the order after seeing so many descriptions of difficulty getting into reverse.
I installed one last month. Live in CT. so not to much seat time yet, but from what I have seen it is GREAT!!!! Can't believe how short the shifs are and how easy it is to make that 2nd to 3rd gear change. I have not trouble getting into rev.

By the way the thing is awesome.
Looking forward to getting mine on the car.
Guess that you mean the "heads" of the bolts are on the driver's side, but don't see a slot. Where is it? Under the **** or ?
The slot is in the stick that comes up out of the housing. Its just a groove. The bolt on piece is the deal that is held on by two bolts. The entire piece should be on the drivers side when the slot is facing the rear of the car. So, with the shifter bolted to the car, there will be a slot facing you in the stick. Then the bolted on stick will be on the driver's side. This is stupid without pics. Maybe I'll shoot some and stop trying to test my descriptive abilities which are apparrently lacking.
Guys with reverse issues. Please list your mileage. Scott wants to compile some data for review. My car has 18k on it but has a brand new transmission.
I would not let this deter purchasing the shifter. Its simply awesome and it seems the reverse issues are few.
Oh, and the install should take an hour or so. The hardest part is removing the console. I'm sure its been listed on here, but I'll try and list out how I do it. This is from memory so forgive me if I forget something.
Open the center console door and remove 2 10mm nuts under the trim plates near the back. Take out the small cathedral shaped trim panel at the back of the center console in front of the armrest piece and behind the shifter. My car has a passenger airbag light there, some have nothing, or a suspension thing I think. Anyways, just pull up on it with some force. It will let go. There are 2 7mm bolts there holding the armrest section to the center console. remove those.
In there you will see a fastner. Pretty sure its a bolt, but not sure. Could be a nut like the rears you just took off. Now remove the e brake handle and boot. Pull the boot down and you will see a phillips head screw. Remove that and yank the hell out of the handle. It will come off. Slide off the e brake boot. Over there you will see a small maybe 7mm bolt holding the armrest section to the center console.
Take off the shift **** which is held on by a small screw at the base of the ****. Now pop the center console loose. Just pull back from the cornersand lift at the back. Don't be scared, its just a $50k car. Now you should be able to lift and pull back the armrest section out of the way a bit. Remove all the plugs and take off the center console. I've done this a few times and I think its easier to seperate the armrest section then taking the whole thing out as a unit. I did that once and it was a PIA. Some of the plugs are a little bizarre so take a good look before you go prying on them with a screw driver. If you figure them out they come out pretty easy. Pretty straight forward after this. Remove the 4 bolts holding on the factory shifter and yank it off. I did have to pry mine a bit the first time, but the last 5 times have been cake. Clean up the surface and smear a bit of RTV on it and install the new shifter. I like to put a bit of loctite on the bolts because I use a solid mount housing unlike your rubber mounted ones and its a little more vibratory. (Is that even a word?) Follow the instructions and set your stops and put her back together. Now go enjoy shifting a car that feels like a sports car. If you have an 05 bring a lead pipe to assist with getting it into reverse
05 and my Calloway shifter works ok in reverse. My difficulty is first gear of which there is a fix but my car was not in the id range and GM would not step up to the plate and apply the new synchros for first gear. Problem before the Calloway and still a problem.
I have an 05 with 13k miles. Reverse isn't an issue, I wouldn't want it to slide into reverse really easily anyway. It's first gear that's the problem. Sometimes, not always, clutch fully depressed from neutral I have to apply herculean force to pop it into first. There was mention of this in the manual, it's solution is to put in in neutral, depress and press the clutch and try again. That's so weak that they are like, sorry, try again! It's really annoying when you have to stop at a lot of lights and you want to burn the dork next to you. People have honked at me and I'm like, it's my f-ing car man I'm sorry!

I put mine in this afternoon, took about an hour at most. I did not remove the ebrake handle, I just kind of flex'd the bottom of the console and took it out. I'm sure I could do it in 20 minutes if I had to do it again.
The difference in the shifters is amazing!!! The Callaway is so much more precise, there is no question at all that it is in gear. Shifts are much shorter, and very accurate. Reverse is no problem at all, so I'm thinking that problem is limted to the 05's.
Even though I've only had it a few hours, it is a fantastic change, VERY glad I did it.

What works most of the time is to shift the car into first gear just before coming to a complete stop and then back to neutral while waiting for the light. Usually it will enter first without issue.
