Default Dyno #'s = Huge Disappointment

Took my 2007 A6 in for a Dyno tune couple of days ago AFTER adding headers, wires, and 160 deg t.s. The baseline was 326 rwhp/335rwtq. This was after the above mods!! I'd say these baseline #'s look pretty sad for a car that is marketed bone stock @ 400HP! What the hell would it have been if I hadn't added the headers??

Although I am happy w/ the gain from the tune (+16rwhp) it sure seems that the original baseline should have been much higher. Are my expectations too high? What do you guys think?

post the dyno sheet so we can see what kind of dyno they use (big difference between a dynojet and mustang dyno for instance...)

your tuner / dyno operator is playing games with you on your base line dyno. no way adding header & stat you get 326rwhp even for an A6. glennhl's A6 lg header, 160 stat & k&n, NO TUNE dyno at 360rwhp. most likely your tuner did that to show impressive gain (16rwhp? come on) from his tune, so you can give him some free advertisement. what is you end result #. hopefully at at least 360rwhp.

Check the heads castings....(sorry, had to) if it's got a "799" on the corner of the heads, you may be part of a giant topic going on here in CF. If not, find a new tuner. 326HP after headers ,wires, stat and tune is retarded. You should be 360-380RWHP.

You may also want to find out if the dyno operator has ever dyno'd an C6 before. You may have been a test subject...

Try not to get caught up in the numbers game....How does it feel? Do you notice better acceleration, torque, etc? Your mods should have transformed your ride from nice....to HOLY S***! If not, your tuner may have hurt you more than helped. I would think with headers and a good tune you should be somewhere in the 360's RWHP. Your "baseline" sounds like just that...a baseline BEFORE mods.

Chuck from Corvettes of Westchester does magic with the A6, and will be in FL soon doing tunes. It might be worth a phone call to speak to him.

From what I can tell, looks like you have Melrose headers on it, new wires and the 160* stat, K&N air filters.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...post1559558356

So are you saying that the car baselined at 326 rwhp/335rwtq, but not bone stock, but with the modifications on it and no tune?

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...post1559642598

Cause if you are, that seems a little low unless the headers were really causing it to run rich. Showroom stock, it should have put down around 320 to 330 at the rear wheels.

But not having done a completely bone stock pull on that particular dyno, its hard to know what the untuned modifications gave you.

Tuned you are at 343 rwhp 341 rwtq. That still seems a little low.

I might consider putting it on another dyno as it could be just that dyno.

I have a few questions:

1) Which headers? If you did short tubes, there really isn't any gain with short tube headers.

2) If you did do long tubes, did you get the new plug wires seated good?

3) Are these SAE corrected numbers? If it was a hot day and they are uncorrected it could explain the issue.

Good luck,
Glenn

Thanx for the comments so far!! Answers to some of the questions:

Car was done 4/2 on a Dynojet. Outside temp about 80 deg with humidity in the 40-50% range.

Do not have dyno #'s BEFORE mods. The posted #'s (baseline) are w/the Melrose LT headers, wires, 160 deg stat, & K&N filters.

Car has the proper heads...I have been following the mentioned thread on this forum.

Car has about 4000 miles. Overall feel is pretty good, notice slight improvement in accel. w/ no hesitation.

Appreciate all comments as I need HELP with what seems to be an anemic car.

80 degrees with 40 to 50% RH, I'm betting your numbers were uncorrected. Ask for the SAE corrected numbers and you will be much happier.

he said he got 16 after the tune...so I'm extrapolating he's really at 342 now? Can you be very clear and post final tuned numbers? was it SAE corrected on the dynosheet?

Why wouldn't you get a stock Dyno run?

Sounds like an inexperienced dyno operator.

if you dont feel any difference after the mods something is questionable but maybe you dont feel 2--30 hp/tq. Your butt dyno needs bigger changes. I think I LOST a little low end after the same type of mods as you had,but after 3K I feel the difference in a good way. Bottom line. Dont let the numbers mess with your head. Just have the tune rechecked by another guy that is recommended by this board-- if possible. If they run it on the dyno, pay the man and then put the dyno sheet in an envelope to open a year from now. If you dont feel anything still get your wallet out and think cam etc..

Hey man..... It seems kinda low to me.....but, there are many factors to consider....

How does the car seem to you? Are you happy? Who tuned it and with what software?

If you're not satisfied with the car, I'll be in florida from about June 1 thru the 5th....
