I have a 2006 vert with about 1,500 miles on it. It's almost one year old and doesn't get driven much. This past week, it was driven and while sitting at an idle for about 15 minutes, the check engine light came on and the car started idling very rough. On the way back home, the engine had a very noticable miss in it, especially between 1,000 and 1,500 RPM's. It seems to be running rich, judging by the smell and the loook of the exhaust. It has been parked in a heated garage most of the winter, but I did not keep a battery tender on it. When I went to drive it a couple of weeks ago, the battery was completely dead. I had to charge it back up and the car has done fine until now. I also ran out most of the gas that was in it and re-fueled, so it has fresh gas in it as well. My OBD2 Code Reader would not pull any codes, so a friend of mine from the local dealership brought home a Tech 2 last night and we pulled the codes from the computer, it was showing a PO300, Random Misfire, along with a couple of HVAC codes. I talked with the Service Manager this morning and he is telling me that the plugs are probably carboned up and that it needs to be run some to clear it up or the plugs may need to be changed out. It is bad weather now where I live, so I will not get the car out. I have been reading some other posts on the forum . . . could the battery be causing any problems (where I ran it down completely)?? Should I check the plugs / change them out? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks for advice . . . I just came back in from checking the plugs, pulled #3 plug and had very minor amount of carbon buildup on it . . . not enough to cause problem in my opinion. I then went to pull #5 plug to look at and the plug wire was just hanging loose on the plug . . .pulled plug and cleaned. Re-installed both plugs and wires, then checked connections on other wires, cranked car and idles smooth. I think my problem is fixed!!
