I'll chime in here. Bought a Halltech Stinger in the fall, installed it, gained 4rwhp 6rwtq in back to back pulls compared to the stock intake........I could live with the less then advertized hp for the convinience of a reusable air filter.
Then one day I opened the hood (I would check things out about once a week) and found the airbridge had popped off the air filter allowing unfiltered air into the motor, the airbridge had "deformed" and slipped off the air filter despite being on tight.......that was unacceptable. Found a pine needle + some feathers stuck on the MAF screen. Since then I've heard of the filter slipping off a few times on this forum....not a rare occurance.
So I recently bought a K&N aircharger, 1st thing I noticed was how much beefier the airbridge was, it's easily 2x as thick that means less chance of warping as with what occured with the Halltech. The Filter itself has a contured neck made of CF/plastic which won't warp, it comes with a mount so instead of the filter assembly just resting on the shroud as with the Halltech, it as a small gap between the shroud/filter.
K&N also claims 10+hp, but I'm sure it's about the same in the end as with a Halltech or other top breather (2-5hp max). I'm more interesed in a quailty product and reusable filter media then one of the shroud cutting variety. I'm very pleased with the K&N.
Sorry you had problems. I wish I had time to visit all the forums, but my wife tells me I spend 14 hours a day already trying to answer questions and fielding phone calls.
The collapsed bridge has happened before. You are right. We discovered the problem ourselves when installing the large SSM filter on our test vehicle. The oil from the filter sometimes gets on the filter flange causing the filter to slide off. The natural thing to do is to tighten the hose clamp further. That causes the polyethylene to collapse.
In our instructions, which in in video, online, we show how to clean the end of the flange and bridge to keep the filter from sliding off.
This would have been a warranty issue and a new bridge would have been sent out immediately had you called us or emailed us.
We have a completely new induction system nearing completion, which will utilize the Halltech 100 mm MAF sensor coming next month. It does however require reprogramming on the C6 due to the MAF code.

So what CAI will someone order that doesn't want to change the MAF after the new system comes out ?
My question is : Does the LPE CAI require any cutting or does it just drop in ?
The LPE CAI normally requires you to "modify" your radiator fan shroud, for the installation. However, for an additional $62.95, they will provide you with a "pre-modified" radiator fan shroud, which will make for a quick and correct installation, and you can save your OEM fan shroud for possible future use...

I just can't justify cutting the fan shroud to install a CAI set up. I use the high flow drop in green filters at present. Guess I'll buy a K&N cai at some point.

Why not buy the "pre-cut" shroud for a perfect installation, and save your original shroud in the event you ever want to return it to stock?
Best of luck with whatever you decide...
Not yet. I have a dyno appointment with Cartek for next Tuesday, but now have a ported manifold/headers installed. So I'm not gonna have any #'s with the intake by itself.

Just ordered the K&N from the place I p/m'd you about. They only charged me $15 for shipping instead of $20 Waiting for ordered parts is almost as bad as waiting for thr car to be built.
What SBMtbiker said. And, "cutting your C6" is a bit of a red herring . . . I bought the pre-cut OEM shroud from VRI and installed it and a pipedreams cover and I'm a total newb. Hard for me to believe anything short of a blower could outperform a VR at highway speeds, but what do I know . . . just a newb. Anything has to be better than the stock nostrils breathing hot air off the radiator.
I believe that very few have used the K&N Many of us that use CAI have the Halltech. Jim is a well know forum vender and fellow vette owner/racer. If you should call the company phone, odds are that he will answer it. That fact alone weights in his favor. Also, his product has been time tested by many on this forum. I speak from experance.
I used the K&N, which is virtually the same thing as the Halltech or the Blackwing. With the free cold air mod to the shroud, it does an outstanding job--cold air thru the grill scoops up to the filter which hangs down in the airstream. The Vararam sounds good, but there have been a lot of posts on its quality, and frankly I don't see that it will cause more ambient temp air to go to the intake than this will. With the K&N, Hall, Wing there is no issue. And the car can be returned to stock in 2 minutes--can't say that when you cut the shroud.
I just put the Callaway Honker on my 07. The product appears to be high quality and the fit and finish is excellent. Price wise they all seem to be very close, so I think it comes down to what you like best. I do not think you can go wrong with cold air.
