Default Cutting The X-pipe ?

I was told that when you get a new aftermarket exhaust (Borla), you have to cut the x-pipe to make it fit. I didn't think that was the case but it came from a pretty reliable source.

On the Ecklers install video, I didn't think they said anything about having to. I'll have to see it again.

I installed Borla Stingers and Borla x-pipe and didn't have to cut anything it was a direct bolt on. Borla mufflers alone would have been a bolt on if I had chosen to keep the factory H-pipe.

David, that's what I thought. And, the Eckler video didn't say anything about cutting.

However, my reliable source was Harley (Borla) who said that the x-pipe had to be cut. I even asked him again, to make sure. Oh well.

BTW, which coupe do you have (man. or auto) and how do you like the setup? Let me know, as I'm anxious to hear about drone, etc. Seems to be more drone present in the A6's.

Phil I have an 07 MT, the Stingers were fine before I installed the Kooks lt's. Now the car is wicked loud "which is ok," some say it sounds Euro, but that drone between 1,800 and 2,000 rpm is bad. However it's nothing a good cd can't overide. I am considering switching over to the Borla Touring mufflers. You might want to consider just the Stingers with the factory h-pipe that should not be overly loud, until you take the the trip into the lt world. Good luck with your decision.

I just bought Borla Stingers and the matching X-pipe and it was a direct replacement to the OEM H-pipe. I'm not sure what they are talking about. By the way here is the Borla part number so you can check for yourself at the Borla web site

Borla X-pipe P/N 60089

It's Pulg and Play.

Tom how do you like the sound with the x-pipe? I got a feeling I'll have some Stingers for sale here shortly, just too much with the lt's. Will go with Borla Touring.

I LOVE the Borla Sport/X-pipe combo. I had the B&B Rte 66 (too mellow and lots of drone) then I bought the B&B Bullets. They lasted 2 days TOO LOUD and the DRONE/RESONANCE was horrible. Not only did interior pieces buzz but after 30 minutes of driving my ears were actually "ringing". I went back to the Rte 66 until I could do some "hands on" research. I found a couple of buddies with the Borla's who gave me test drives and one even threw me his keys and I cruised for about an hour trying to make the Borla's misbehave. I was pleasantly surprised how civil they are. The X-pipe tame them just enough to make them great on a daily driver yet nasty when called on.

I finally found the exhaust I'm keeping. Having said that Borla's Stingers with LT's are just TOO LOUD and RESONATE to the point of being criminal. Guess I'm just too old to appreciate that
I've read where the Touring's w/LT's sound better but still resonate badly. I'd try and find some to listen too before spending $$$
