There was a ringing sound coming from the engine when I came back from work today. Went for a spin in the evening and 10 minutes later got a "Service Charging System" message but it went away without me resetting it. Now there is no ringing sound coming from the engine. The alternator's voltage looks good. Any thoughts before I let the dealer tear my car apart? Only have 1300 miles on it and 3 months old.
Please explain "Rev Limiter" - sorry but I am not sure what you mean - I guess I am not technically savvy?
When the RPM's reach around 6700 the fuel is temporarily shut off. It is a good idea to shift before that happens. I have not heard of any damage done by doing it but it's best to shift first.
I'm No Tech But I Think The Fan Inside The Alternator Flexes When There Is A Sudden Change In Rpm's. Mec At Dealer Told Me There Was A Gm Notice About This.

But I like to rev up my engine, that too suddenly - that's what I bought the car for. If there is a GM Notice about this, did they come up with a fix for it?
I had the same problem and almost went with a new alternator when , at the last moment, my tuner told me tha he heard of a GM bulletin about a falty harmonic balancer that starts to vibrate exessively especially after a cam swap. Had it replaced under warranty and the problem has been solved.
