Default C6 rearends.....

I am about to buy my first C6. Wondering....Is there differences in the rearends of the C6s like there are in the C5s...ie: 2.73,3.42s etc. I am wondering if a stock coupe would come with a decent rear, and if I should be looking for this in my list of wants, when I get ready to order...thanks...tom

6mn cars come from the facory with 3.42's. Automatics come with 2.15's (I think??).

05's came with 2:73 or 3:15's in the auto tranny cars and the manual tranny cars came with 3:42's

06-07 came with 3:42 for the manual and the auto 6 speed tranny came with 2:56 gears. The auto 6 speed basically feels like it has 3:90 gears with the 2:56 rear and the extra 2 gear changes.

One thing you should be aware of is that the '06 onward had a beefed up diff compared to the '05's. This was in response to several cases of '05 rear end failures, especially on the stick cars when driven hard off the line.

As others have said, only on the 2005 model automatics would you want to look for the optional 3.15 axle ratio (was standard on Z51 optioned automatics, optional on all other automatics for 2005).
2006s and 2007s have just one rear gear for the manuals (3.42) and one for the automatics (2.56) though with all manual cars (2005-2007) the internal transmission ratios can vary depending on whether you have a Z51 car or not.

The 07 C6 is supposed to have strongest rearend, sharing many components with Z06 model.

Not from what I understand… the 07 is supposed to be strongest with 9” rear as friend(s) have told me and believe LG Motorsports posted same info some months ago. If you are buying new go with 07 even if 06 is discounted somewhat.
