No hassel tire swap Idea!
I want to be able to swap tires without any sensor hassel...
So how big are these sensors?
Can they be put in a small canister that will hold 30 psi?
Anyone have details on this?
I was thinking if the canister was small enough it could go in the space under the rear hatch latch behind the carpet.

Otherwise, I would think that the sensors would read 0 PSI (30 psi at the sensor and 30 psi on the valve stem side).
Since Phord Explorers with low pressureFirestones were flipping all over the highways a few years ago, Big Brutha (Congress) decided they needed to prod people into checking their tire pressures.
Starting in September (2008 model year) all vehicles 10,000 lbs and less will be required to have a TPMS and sensors. Part of the requirement mandated by Congress and the NHTSA is that the system be a PITA so people will have a hard time disregarding the warnings. It also has to be built so it can't be turned off or inhibited.
Manufacturers have had a couple of years to phase-in their fleets by making a higher percentage meet the requirement over the last couple of years until it's 100% this fall. The C6 system has helped the General meet the phase-in %.
So.....no, you can't disable it. It's built to be very obnoxious to get people who otherwise would drive around on 1/2 inflated tires to pump them up every once in a while.
Also, you don't want to drive around on runflats without sensors. None of the tire manufacturers will honor a road hazard warranty for the runflats if you don't have sensors. Read the fine lawyerese print on the side of your OE Goodyears.
If you lose pressure in your runflat going down the highway, the stiff sidewall pretty well masks the fact - you don't get the squirelly handling you get with a normal tire that loses pressure. With a runflat you might not know it until you take the off-ramp at highway speed and build up a sideload and end up in the guard rail.

What are you going to do when one TPS battery fails in 3 years? Then another? Then another?
At the track I get a damb tire error over 42 lbs - well EXCUSE ME - I want to monitor my oil temp - I do not appreciate fooling with the buttons at 160 MPH.
Then my Bartec tool failed. I've had it with this system. I'm not a Brazilian woman in a minivan near a cliff who neglects her car. At least give me the option to turn if off.
I'll be doing the canister too, unless I can figure out the BCM.
