Save your money and buy bmw pucks for an e46. They snap in and out in less than 5 seconds. $32 for a set of 4 shipped from bavauto.com...I guess they found out vette guys were using them because they bumped the price up $2/puck. Just throw away the center locking pin (or at least modify it. do a quick search for the screw mod).
Hockey pucks and ripoff $45+ lifting pucks are a waste of money, imo. They rattle around, fall out and don't stay fixed. What are you going to do when you have to drop the car off at the dealer? Tape them in and give them a demo on how to use them?

I am using BMW lift pucks on my car but I seem to have a different type than what you have shown. Mine are round and snap right in place without any modification. They have a groove for a gasket but I would not recommend using one. I decided to use gaskets to prevent the pucks from scratching the paint (****, I know) and the diameter that seemed to work was to large and prevented the pucks from properly seating. I have lost one puck due to this and promptly removed the other gaskets. Anyway, I paid around $30 delivered from the same place for a set of 4. Someone is selling them on Ebay for over $40 a set plus shipping. I would check you local BMW dealer.

You got the E36 pucks. They're round and about 1/2" tall. The E46 pucks are about 1.5" tall and have a built-in rubber seal around the edge to seal to the body w/out scratching it. I do think they're a lot cheaper if you check at a local dealer.
Drive down the street with homemade hockey pucks and see how many feet they stay in. Are you going to bring hockey pucks with eye bolts to the dealer and show them how to use them? Or is it easier to pop in pucks and not have to worry about them cracking your rocker panels?

Why would you drive around with them (home made ones)in ? They work fine for me. Of course I do my own maintenance. If you did have to take it somewhere it's not that hard to explain how to use them. Just my opinion.

Mine have made it 35 miles without getting lost...of course it's evident that my memory is a lot shorter than 35 miles as I forgot to take one of them off before driving.

Yes and Yes...I keep my pucks in one of the storage comparments and put them in before I turn the car over to the technician. I also point out to the tech that I have the pucks installed and ask him to remove them if he has to road test the car.
ebay... ~$20.. hockey pucks w/ eye bolts bolted in, plus a mesh baggie for it all... drove around with one for 2 weeks, forgot to take it off, no probs... use them all the time, they work great.. i wouldn't recommend leaving any of them in, could cause some damage..
Z06 arriving tomorow, so I'm not sure if the puck is approx the same for C5.
I've used welding magnets from Harbor Freight for years.
Really inexpensive less tha $5 each.
Go to eBay and do a search using: Jacking pucks & bag. You'll see good photos and exactly how the pucks work with a jack. Unless you have easy access to the parts and pieces to make your own pucks, the price on these ebay pucks with a storage bag is pretty reasonable.
I would have included the direct ebay link but I don't think we're suppose to do that here on the forum.
