Default Stupid Jacking Question

Okay, so I am going to jack up the C6 (for tire removal and caliper swap) using the points indicated in the manual...rear first, then front. Once the car is up, where do I put the jack stands?

The red are the preferred locations.

Thanks guys, I understand where the preferred locations are, and have read all the FAQ. My question is, now that I have the car up with a jack and I want to LOWER it onto a jack stands...where do I place the stands? Side rails? So if I lift from a preferred point, how do I then place a stand there for safety while I am under the car or working on a wheel? Do I put the stand on the other prefferred point and leave the jack supporting the other...that seems a bit unstable.

Did you look at the pictuers in the link I provided? You will see a floor jack is used in conjunction with a cross beam adapter to jack the car up at the perferred lifting locations as so nicely highlighted in red in TommyV's post above.

Once you have the car jacked up you then place your jack stands under both sides of the crossbeam adapter and you can then remove the floor jack. You now have the the car supported by the cross beam adapter which in turn is supported by jack stands. In the pictures the floor jacks were left in place for added safety but the car is stable without the floor jacks in place.

Alternatively you could lift the car with the floor jack and cross beam adapter and then place the jack stands where the black circles identify the frame rail jacking locations. To do that you will need jacking pucks and then jack stands with a very flat suface to lay flush against the jacking puck

I hope this explains your options a little better

Thanks guys, I think I figured it out. I will look into the cross beam adapter!
