Well I searched and searched "rear ends" and all I could come up with was Spin yapping about gears and Cartek's new special price on gear installs
I was under the car just the other day and noticed that rear end fluid appeared to be accumulating and almost puddling along the diff case. Was there a TSB on the 2005 rears or could this be something else altogether?
I do hope GM has to replace this. Maybe I could sneak them a 4:10 setup
Let me know what you guys think! PS – How can I check the level of fluid? Just pull the plug and check?
There are several places that the Diff could leak, but the likely place is where the diff mates to the trans. There is a large O ring seal. If this is leaking, dealer just replaces the O ring.
The last time I brought a car in for warranty work I had to wait 2 hrs for a shuttle to take me back to the metro. They offer no complimentary vehicle while your car is being repaired. I purchased my last Corvette from Koons and that was a mess all in itself. Took 5 hours - 4 of which I sat in a chair fuming at the moron processing my paperwork....
Well I should probably get some fluid in it if I'm doing the twisties this weekend!

Are you going on the Skyline Drive Ride on Saturday?
My '05 purchased 2-05 leaked at the gasket on the rear cover. It took two tries for the Dealer to fix it. The first they replaced the gasket (and forgot the friction modifier), the second time they replaced the warped cover, the friction modifier and another gasket.

Dry it and check the housing for cracks. They are prone to do this and it will leak as described. If its cracked I would not do any twisties, if it lets go completely it could take the tranny with it. Ask me how I know.

Think this is something they would cover under warranty?

Oh yeah they should cover it. Its common and if you don't have any warranty breaking mods you should be good to go. Just check it before you go out. The carnage is not good.

Note the fill hole in the pic....
I thought mine was leaking and it turned out it was coming out the vent. It's on the top left of the above picture. I read that a large percentage of suspected leaks are just the vent. Mine was after a long trip in hot weather at 75-80 mph. I cleaned it off and in the following year have no additional problems.

Did you have to replace the lost fluid or change fluid?
I'm also noticing a bit of a smell after I installed the headers - I'm hoping it isn't my clutch line rubbing and ready to catch fire
smells like burnt valves - like a dry burn. lean at WOT?
