Default Need suggestions for upgrading my audio

I want to upgrade the audio in my '07 C6 (LT1). I'll probably buy the components online and have Cartoys are another company do the install. Any suggestions from owners who have successful upgraded their systems would be appreciated...

1) Head unit - 2 DIN w/ AV. I'm considering a Kenwood DNX 7100. Any other similar units you're happy with?
2) Replacing speakers. What brands/models would you recommend?
3) Subwoofer. Is this necessary to get deep bass? Again, what brand/models have you used with great results?

Thank you!

For the subwoofer look at JL Audio Stealthbox. This is getting good reviews. Bazooka has always made a decent sounding low frequency enclosure.

For Head Units, alot of guys are using the top-line Pioneer stuff if you read the forum. IMHO Alpine has always had the best head units though. But it would seem in todays age, all the big names make good equipment.

For the remainder of the speakers ...well they are personal taste to the ears. But good names to check are Focal, MB Quart & Boston Acoustics to name a few of the best.

As for amps; another loaded question but two suggestions are; if you want to go good but not high end get Alpine amps, if you want magnificent get Audison.

You will get tons of opinions on this stuff so expect to be confused.

Check out the C6 Audio FAQ in the Audio/Electronics section. Lots of great info and pics, etc.

I'm pretty happy with the Pioneer AVIC-D3 in my 05. My priority is Ipod integration, so I went with the brand that had the newest/fastest interface.

Darnit.. in the craziness at Weyerbachers on Saturday I forgot to hunt you down. I really wanted to see that install, particularly that bezel. Looks so in the pics.

change the speakers first... weakest part of system...
after that the sound won't be that different.....
of course a Sub will always help the lows....

infinity speakers (4 ohm)
kenwood HU DDX-7017

How did you remove the door panels? Rear speakers were those difficult to remove?
The speakers in the door looks like there are two covers to remove?

I am not an audiophile but I couldnt' stand the sound of my 1SA system. It is horrible and gave me a headache.

Changing the speakers is a good place to start. I did that and it was just never enough. I finally changed the entire system out myself. I have never even changed a head unit before but with all the great posts from guys (like above) gave me the guts to do it. It takes some time but is well worth it.

Morel Elate 9" 3 way in the doors.
JL Audio makes a sub for the left rear.
Kenwood 7109 with IPOD and XM Radio
Alpine PDX 4x150 use 2 channels for the doors and bridge the other two channels for the sub. Use the head unit to power the two rear stock speakers.
