GM had a replacement bulletin on the 05. Then they changed their mind and said that the noise and dust build up was normal. I was fortunate to get mine changed under the bulletin the last day it was available. From the moment I left the dealership to now I have not had any squeal or dust buildup. I guess I could have just waited a day and trusted GM that I had no problems.
See, this is where its confusing. Others have posted the same about the Hawk pads, but you can find other posts swearing by them as no squeal. I don't get it.
So far everyone who has posted that I could find that used the GM ceramic replacement pads hasn't had any squealing issues, so I think I'm leaning that way. Depends on what my dealer says and if they want to give it a try to correct the problem first without replacing the pads. I really don't care, as long as its quiet! $50,000 cars should not sound this bad. I think it would help if the stock exhaust wasn't so quiet (something I'll definitely be changing this summer)!
I have the Hawk HPS pads also and they squeal more then I like. However, if you warm them up, the squeal goes away til they cool down.
My 05 Z51 never squealed, but they did dust badly. They definitely weren't ceramic. I've had GM ceramics on it for the last year, very very low dust and no noises.
