Default Considering widebody conversion, have questions

I am considering doing the widebody conversion on my '06 A6 so I can run the largest tire/wheel combo possible at the track. Since my car slipped off the front jacking pad at the track last weekend and busted up the front fender, door and rocker panel I'm thinking now is the time since I gotta buy a front fender anyway. (nice that they put the jacking point right between the door and quarterpanel so that if it slips off it takes out BOTH)

My questions are:

1. Do you have to replace the front bumper cover? I don't care about the scoop that the Z06 bumper has unless it is functional. If it is used for the engine air intake, then it would be nice as I could sell the Vararam that I have now that blocks radiator flow and get the Z06 Vararam... Is that how works? Also it appears that the front fenders are wider where they meet the bumper so you would have to change it out, or am I wrong?

2. Does the GM kit use the same rocker panels? Does anyone make a kit with a different rocker panel? I thought I saw one here on the forum that was custom and since one of mine is broken anyway... I thought Caravaggio did a wide body kit but on their website I could only find a limited amount of exterior body parts and everything I saw was for a C5 - am I on the wrong site? I went to http://www.caravaggiocorvettes.com

3. Who else makes the kits? I've seen complete kits available here with genuine GM parts for $4500.00. I'm not really interested in every detail, like the 3rd brake light so I might save some money with a kit that can be done with just the fenders, liners and flaps.

4. What's the widest tire/wheel combo anyone has run without any rubbing issues? I will probably have some CCW's built for it.

Thanks in advance
Shannon

the scoop is functional (check out the Z06 FAQ) and yes, you have to get the wider Zo6 bumper cover to meet up with wider front fenders

c6 and z06 have same rocker panels, though you can get different ones from caravaggio

you need every single thing in the kit except the center wheel well liner in the front

4. What's the widest tire/wheel combo anyone has run without any rubbing issues? I will probably have some CCW's built for it.

for the track 11 and 13, for the street, 10 and 13 inch wide

Thanks in advance
Shannon

Has anyone done a wide body rears on a convertible? Is it a pain in the ***? Please give details so I know if I can tackle it on my own.

Thanks Shawn, good info. After reading the Z06 FAQ on the CAI I wonder if it is the Vararam that causes my car to surge at low RPM - I assumed it was the cam when the TQ locked up. I am going to ask GC if the $4500 kit includes the CAI parts -otherwise there would be a non-functional hole where the scoop is.

the hole is functional regardless of application. it brings cool outside air to the airfilter area in a normal C6Z. if you dump the varam, it will bring the same cold air to the filter of your choice

I seen a car today - Z06 front fenders and stock front clip. It was stretched to fit.

Instead of painted flames he should use the real thing.

but, aside from his choice of flames, he did show that you can adapt the front bumper to work with Z fenders, which I think is the pretty important point, which is being overlooked.

It doesn't look that great, you can tell that it was stretched to fit.
