OK, I am a little confused by the last thread I posted. Can someone please tell me the easiest way to add factory xm to my 1sb radio? My '05 coupe has the upgraded 6 cd unit I assume thats the 1sb. I want to have the little black antenna on top and the xm as part of my band selection. Just like the factory. Can my local dealer simply add it?
Please, I need the easiest, not necassarily the cheapest way.....thanks
May try in the audio sect. I believe the wire harness is in there and one sure way to know is there a black xm ant on top the car? If not will need an xm kit most likely from Crutchfield.
First problem is to find the XM module itself. I would suggest you try E-bay for it, particularly from people who are upgrading from the Bose stereo.
After that, it is relatively simple. Remove the left lower rear glass strut from its fitting and open the rear. Be sure to prop it open as the right side strut is not strong enough to hold the glass by itself. Pull the carpeting out from the plastic molding behind the left rear speaker and above the wheel well. Once the carpet is pulled back you will find a little shelf with a blue plastic plug which gets connected to the XM module. Connect an antenna to the module and place it anywhere it has a view of the sky (such as underneath the rear fascia). All that remains is to have the BCM reprogrammed to reflect that the radio now has an XM capability. The module will play through the 1SB radio with two separate sets of 6 present channels - assuming of course that you have a paid subscription.
BS. I had XM went with Sirius and now back to XM. They will merge later and XM has better sound. You also do not need to remove the window strut just pull back the carpet and you can get at it. Did it 3 times now all the same way. I wasted $80 installing the Sirius unit and should have stayed with XM especially with the merge coming and XM is cheaper. Just renewed for $77 a year. Wont get that with Sirius.

Does the Dealer reprogram the BCM? And then does the menu on the radio show the separate presets for XM along with the normal presets for AM-FM? I'm thinking of getting it because I like Audio Visions And Homeplate during bb season.
