Default DOT 4 Brake Fluid advice

Hey all,

I've been planning on putting some DOT 4 fluid in the car as I autocross the car and want to get some better fluid that handles some higher temps and I hear it also doesn't break down as quick as regular fluid.

I bought SSBC's DOT4 ( purple stuff ), and I never noticed before, but the label says "Do not use with ABS systems"

What do all you track rats use in your Cars??? Since most C4's and all the late model cars are ABS equipped and I know there's a ton of you that do this...

Any advice, help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The Valvoline SynPower is pretty cheap, easily available and ABS compatible. If you want something available in different colors to make it easier to see when you've flushed the old fluid there's ATE Typ 200 / Super Blue, same fluid in different colors. Its reasonably priced, but usually has to be ordered.

Fluid temperatures aren't likely to be an issue in autocrossing, you just aren't on the brakes long enough during a minute's run to get the fluid that hot. I go on the theory that a good flush and new fluid is more important than the best possible dry boiling point.

GM specifies DOT 3 for the C6 Corvette.

OK,

Sounds good. My SS already has DOT3 from the factory just as the C6 does.

Maybe I'll just do a good flush. The SS sucks in that the clutch and the brakes draw from the same Master cylinder.

Thanks guys

DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 are glycol based and are compatible. DOT 5 fluid is silicone based and is not compatible with DOT 3,4, or 5.1 and should not be used in our ABS equipped cars.

Thanks for the info and link John.

This car is annoying me with the clutch fluid being shared... gotta find a place that can do it. If it was just the brakes, I'd do it myself.
