At the curise in today, Gm brought over a new 08 car and showed it to us all. One of the fixes they said was that the A6 software has been upgraded to provide immediate, firm shifting from the paddels. He told us that after September when the dealers got the new software, we should be able to take the cares in for an update that will eliminate all of the A6 issues we all know about.
According to the development guy, the upgrade is software, and the price should be NADA! Again, will believe when seen, but that is what he said. Apparently, there was overwhelming response from people, and they know it is a major problem.
Also, according to him, they are identical transmissions, except for the software that drives them.
thought the 08 tranny has different hardware though
Even if there were a few minor 'hard' part changes (there may or may not be) I would think that the programming updates could still be performed on the current A6s.
But more likely this:

is the case though. The transmission was a brand new/cutting edge design for 2006, it's unlikely that they made any significant internal changes already.
