Default First problem with vette

After a little over a year and 7000 miles on my 06 I had my first problem today. The ABS light came on along with a DIC message of “Service ABS and speed limited to 80 MPH”. I’ve tried hitting the reset and shutting down and restarting the car but no dice. The message stays the same with ABS light on. Sooooooooooooooo as much as I hate to it’s going to the doctor (Crowley Chevy, West Hartford, CT) this Friday. The service manger was pretty nice and said they’d immediately take a look when I got there to see if it’s an easy fix. If not they’ll give me loaner and take it from there. I was wondering if others have had the same problem. My vette is a 06 coupe with MN6 and F55 suspension. I did a search and found where folks had multiple services messages with A/H, etc but not specifically ABS alone. Any info is appreciated as I’d still like to AVOID the dealership if at all possible…

Sorry to hear about the problem. What I'd probably do is first read the diagnostic code(s) / data with a scan tool and take note of everything. Then, unhook the battery and rehook... if there is a real problem, the warning will come back... then it's time for the dealer. If it was just a passing oddball glitch, it might then be gone... and you can avoid the dealer. Not saying this is the best advise, but that's probably what I'd try before putting my car in the hands of strangers. If you don't yet have a scan tool, it's worth getting one. Hope it all turns out ok.

Just so happens I have a scan tool so I'm going to give that a try. Can't hurt anything and as you say... if it's the real deal it will simply reappear...... thanks...

From memory... under the dash, more or less in line with the steering column. Look under there, you'll see it. Hopefully your scanner is CAN capable. The scanner will read with the ignition off, but I seem to get more data when the ignition is on... not just ACC on, but full ignition on (with engine off)... hold the ACC button down for about 10 seconds to get the ignition fully on. (You know the ignition is on when the DIC comes on and/or your auto headlights come on, etc)

Just a word or warning, but my scan tool will not read ABS messages, just the emissions stuff. If yours works, please get back to us, but normally, you have to hook up to a more expensive scanner (i.e. GM scanner) to get the non-emissions type of messages.

Good luck,
Glenn

You are correct.... Would not read the ABS message! Showed it had 2 faults but would not give me the codes....... Did unhook the battery for awhile and rehooked, but NADA. Still shows the abs light and DIC message to service ABS and cannot exceed 80 mph. Oh well looks like it's to the dealer on Friday now........ damnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!

Sorry. Let us know how it turns out. Hopefully it's a quick simple fix.

Did the ABS light and message come on instantly once you hooked up the battery and started her up, or did the light / message come on after driving it a bit?

Came on instantly which makes me wonder! Guess it doesn't clear certain codes even when the battery is disconnected? Car runs fine right up to about 80 mph and then forget it...... I bought the car from this dealer so we'll see how much of a horror show this turns into. I sure hope it's a simple fix and I don't have to leave the car. Not counting on it happening that way however...........

I'm betting it's as simple as a bad sensor, you'll be out of there in no time!

It's at the dealer now and I think you're probably correct about the abs module. They looked a little confused but that could be because I don't like a dealer messing with the car. However I couldn't stand around there all day so I took the Tahoe loaner and hit the road. They are supposed to call me when it's finished. I can only hope they actually have a clue what they're doing... but we shall see. At least they were nice about everything and did attempt to take care of me. Now I hope they fix it without screwing something up and not turn the car into a pig pen! I did mention the car was in PERFECT condition.. not one scratch inside or out. Service Mgr seemed to understand my concerns as a his tech slid his grease coverd butt into my car... NO..NO... ust kidding! It did however cross my mind because of what's happened with so many others here. I'll report back as soon as the problem is resolved.......

Talked with the service mgr and he says it's a bad abs module! Of course they didn't have the part so it's staying at the dealer for the weekend! Oh well at least I know the problem and it should be ready monday or tuesday........ Can't really complain as it's my first issue with the car since I've owned it!
