i have the c5 version of the hurst (put it in before the c6 version was ava.) and it rattled as well. i filled it with some 'white grease'. i don't recall hearing the rattle for some time now.

Until the General gets into bed with a good German engineer, we will be thankful to the above after market manufacterers.

Seems like the entire design of shifting has changed since the original days of Hurst shifters (I know it has). But there was a time when it required LESS shifting effort when you put in a Hurst.

And also, American manual transmissions at that time were very smooth. As a matter of fact, the definition of smooth shifting USED TO BE the Corvette in the late 50s and 60s. Altho people did put in Hurst shifters in those cars, it wasn't necessarily an improvement.

My take on it is if a shifter gets more precise by having to exert more pressure, in a way, you've defeated the purpose of "more precise" or easier shifting.

There are many examples of excellent shifting transmissions and shifters out there today. I don't think it requires sleeping around to figure it out.

Had the Callaway installed today. one word WOW!!!!
It blows the stock shifter away. Its the shifter the Corvette should have but was to cheap to put in. An absolute must do when you start modding IMO.
