I just removed the transparent top from the rear hatch (just picked up from the dealer last week and the car is a dual roof option car). Anyway, the front where it clips in looks like it has 2 strips of stick on felt (1 on each side). Mine are kind of messed up. I am assuming from being put in or removed the wrong way. Those strips are crumpled up and coming off.
My question is - what are they for - sound deadening, insulation? I can probably just get them from any craft/hobby/hardware store, but I was wondering if I should bother.
The felt strips are an anti-rattle device for when the roof is stored in the hatch. Mine came off also. But not to worry. You can use the "loop" side of some self adhesive black Velcro and install the material to the forward roof support brackets (the part that the roof slides on to) in the hatch on the wheel wells. This actually works better that having the felt material inside the cavity on the roof panel.
