Optima RedTop Installed
After a convenient reminder by the battery in my other car dying after it's third year, I took preemptive action to replace the battery in my 2005 C6 Convertible. How many times must I re-learn that factory batteries only last 2 to 3 years in Houston's heat???
I did a lot of searching on the forum but had a really hard time finding a definitive post stating which Optima RedTop would work in a 2005 C6. This compelled me to post my results.
After 22 months my factory battery did appear to be leaking from the positive post. There was very noticeable corrosion of the post and cable and I had to do some scrubbing to get rid of it all. I am glad that I took time to change it now rather than waiting for it's inevitable death in the coming months.
I had an Optima in my C5 for 5 years so I knew I was going to go with another RedTop. I went to AutoZone and compared the dimensions of the Optima RedTop 34/78 and Optima RedTop 75/25. Both batteries appeared to have the same size base as the factory battery (within eyeball tolerances). This seems to be the most important dimension for fastening the battery into the vette. Because of that, I went with the more powerful 34/78 battery for $169.
The Optima RedTop 34/78 installed with ease and was very securely fastened to the car using the factory battery holder. The car roared to life and all was well.
For those hoping to save $20, I feel pretty confident that the 75/25 battery would have worked equally well.

This is good timing. I have a yellow top optima in my Z and I think its starting to go bad. I've had it for about 4.5 years though. I'm going to replace it with either another yellow or red top.
