Default A few questions

My first set of questions would be regarding exhaust. I would like to put on LG LongTube Headers and B&B Bullets but after speaking with a few people i have some questions. Some tell me that i may not pass emissions (i live in NY) im not sure if thats true or not but i am somewhat concerned. And must i get a tune? I am planning to do some other engine work to the car in the near future so i was thinking about putting it off for a few months. Is there any side effects for not getting a tune? Some people said some sensors will go out of wack. I also plan to do the work myself so other than the bolt in, are there any other required steps?

Another problem i have been having is that my battery has been dying almost on a regular basis. It first happened when i left the radio on after forgetting to turn the car off accessory mode. Since then (about 3 weeks ago) it has died four times just to the point where the engine will not turn over, all the accessories work. I have a charger and have charged it to max for the second time. For the times i needed it jumped, after only making contact for a few seconds the car would crank just fine. Is my battery gone or is something still taking juice? If the battery is gone, will a dealer take care of it? And are there any after market batteries that are recommended?

any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.
-Eric

you don't need a tune, i know a few folks locally that has more mods then just headers & catback and still run on factory tune. at least one person is running on stock tune for a year now and regular runs excellent time at the local track. you may get code p0420 & p0430 after your install, it is caused by the hi-flow cats,(cats inefficience) of course some folks doesn't get them and some does. if you do just see me. of course if you do decide to get a tune, make sure when you do need another one in the near future, you don't get charge again. good luck on this one, unless it is mail order then it is a maybe. regarding emmission, techically speaking Lt headers are emmission illegal, if it pass the tail pipe emmision test but they fail your car, it is because the lt headers fail the visional part inspection. can't move the cats from factory location.

Big time item when under ground gas tanks leaked water in. It removes water from the gas. PEP Boys carries it. $1 a pint. Pour it in the tank.

Tuning the car is something you will want to do. Do you have to? No, but you will not fully benefit from the mods listed. Headers will increase air flow. If you increase air flow you will want to have a better a/f ratio...therefore you want to get it tuned.

If you have the headers coated, you should not get any codes. I have the exact same set up (lg long tube jethot coated and bullets) and never got a code ever.

As far as emmissions - it will pass the sniff test no problem. Not sure if NY has any visual inspection but I cannot imagine anyone getting that interested in a new car that passes the sniffer.

There is someone else running around the boards from NY with lg headers and bullets ... he never mentioned anything about issues with inspections.
