I "ported" mine myself (clean up is a better word) with a dremel and it took me 5 hours with a sanding drum. Basically, you are (1) smoothing and matching the area where the 3 pcs mate up, 1 inch in from the port, (2) you are removing a bit of flashing at the port, (3) you are smoothing the ledge that exists at the entrance to the runner from the plenum, and (4) you are doing some flash cleanup elsewhere. Most is totally obvious once you take off the top piece.
If you do not feel comfortable, send it to CHarris or to Tony Mamo at AFR and they will do this for you. It is my opinion that buying the FAST and not porting it is a waste of money.
Not sure about the F-rail kit, ask a tuner like Sean at OCC what is needed.
LPE sells the firewall relo kit or a shop can fab it.
Don't know about hollow sound, but on my car, it made the engine sound like a big-block - much deeper intake growl. But you only hear that when you are WOT around 3K and up. Otherwise like stock. I have to say that with that plus the Kooks (stock catback), the engine just sound fabulous at WOT, part Ferrari, part NASCAR. One of the coolest engine sounds there is.
I read the fuel rail kit is not needed-instead just an o-ring or washer? Is this true?
Who sells them modified so that the fire wall does not need alteration?
Finally can someone describe this "hollow sound" I have read about?
Thanks
PM SpinMonster. He can answer all of your questions. As to the hollow sound, it is the sound fast-moving air through a plenum with very thin sides. When you hear it the word "hollow" comes naturally to mind. Think of the sound that you'd hear when knocking on a hollow wooden object but imagine it as a constant sound like that without the knock event. I hear it most clearly lolly-gagging at 1500 in third. It becomes pronounced briefly in the transition to WOT and then disappears in the volume of the exhaust. I like the sound, as does my Porsche buddy. I think he's jealous!
