Default Cam suggestions for A4

Looking for cam suggestions for my 2005 A4 that will allow me to retain stock converter? Is this even possible and if so, will i be able to get significant gains from said cam?

I also will be going blower down the road and would like to do this once.

Thanks!

My friend is running a G5x3 some say its too big on paper but a few running it like it, the right tune is key.

I was told it make no more power down low but makes a ton up top, and does not lose pwr down low seems like a great cam for street tires AKA traction limited folks.

"LS2 CheaTR" - 215/230 .629/.592 117 LSA. Off Idle-6800 RPM Power Band. Broad power range. Works well with stock exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters. Stock like idle. Minor tuning required on automatic transmission cars. Responds very well to nitrous. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended. Double valve springs and titanium retainers required for this cam.

You can get more performance by swapping your converter and keeping the stock cam than you can by getting a small enough cam to work well with the stock converter. Thats what I would do.

I went with a 224/228 114 (.588) for exactly the same reason (i.e. stick with stock converter and wanting to use for blower later on). This was right as LS2 Edit was coming out, so the tunes weren't great, but it was tolerable (pushed at brakes just a bit on 750 rpm idle, but not really an issue after a couple weeks getting used to).

I picked up 35 rwhp from just the cam swap (had 1.75" Kooks with hi-flows and CAI as well, but before the swap).

I dont mind having to press on the brake just a tad bit more. I just dont want the car to be idling at 1000 rpm or me having to worry about the car stalling out at a light.

Just trying to maximize my dollars spent on the car and I really want to keep all my money invested in teh motor and not all other areas of the car i.e gears and converter.

I already have longtubes and vararam.

If i can get to at least 415 rwhp with the cam I would be happy for now. As my car sits, I am at 380 rwhp.

It's more then pressing the brakes a bit harder. A cam larger than the stock one will have less power down low, since your converter will still stall out very early, you will lose half of the acceleration of the cam in lag.
Also, you gan gain .5 with a converter only, you wont come close to that with a small cam. If you can't do both, you may want to reconsider.

The 224/228 Selection would be a good move. We just did a camaro with the stock converter with that cam and he loves it! We usually do recommend an aftermarket converter, but they're not always required.

How well would this cam respond to either a blower or nitrous setup??

Blower - fantastic, nitrous, not as well as a larger cam would, but you want to stay stock converter so that will have to do. You will still see a very nice gain on nitrous as well

If you have any more questions, feel free to shoot me a PM. I dont always get to check back on all of the threads I posted in, and I dont want to make you feel like I forgot about you!
