I have been considering a gear change, while speaking with chuck cow from Westchester Corvette He thought that I should come to the forums to get the explanation of how I would get better traction with the 4:10's than I do with the stock I believe he stated the "spinmonster" had a good detailed explanation I have 431 hp and 420tq at the rear wheels
"The fact is that gears slow down the rate of rotation of the tires at any particular rpm and after the sudden TQ spin the car will hook faster with 4.10's than 3.42's. Gears help you hook. 60' times fall when you have gears. I spin less with 4.10s than with 3.42's. It breaks them loose more often but it results in shorter burnouts."
Chuck is right about this and his 4.10 rear is awesome. I have one in my car and it is the single best mod I ever did. The fun factor is unbelievable. Take a look at Welcome2Try's thread about his new cam mod. In it, he explains his runs against Hoffie who has the almost identical mods except gears.
