Ok, so I installed my LG Longtubes a week ago. Right after I got a P0036 code. It was explained to me that this code means that something is not making a connection. I.e., I have an extension or something not connected right. I just went back underneath and made sure all the connections were solid. I even zip tied the extensions to the o2 sensors around the plugs so they couldn't go anywhere. Still getting P0036!!!
I also should mention that while I was under there I swapped out the sensor extensions from side to side to rule that out. So what could be the problem? To say I am a little frustrated is an understatement.
Getting the exhaust off once was no fun. Trying to get it off this time was even less fun. Pipes don't like to come off once they have been clamped down.... I do not relish doing this a third time to swap out extensions or sensors.
Any idea what might be causing the P0036? If the O2 sensor somehow went bad (not sure how that would happen, they weren't dropped or banged or anything else) could it give that code? Thanks in advance for any help.
Let me also state that LG has been fantastic with their tech support, but unfortunately they are closed weekends, and being the obsessive compulsive individual that I am, I would like to get some answers this evening if possible so I know which direction to go in. Thanks!
P0036 is for the drivers side rear O2 sensor heater control. Check the connectors at that O2 for bent or backed out terminals. 12 volts is suppled on the pink wire for the heater and the heater control is the brown wire. Also, is there any chance you swapped the rear O2's around? They need to be installed in their original positions.
Thanks, I'll check, but I double checked the terminals and I even used a multimeter to ensure connectivity between the ends of the O2's. I am stumped. Is it possible it is on the wiring harness side and not the extension or the O2? That said, I looked that over really well to make sure that there were no bad pins or anything.
I am fairly positive that I installed the rear O2's in the same exact location they came out of, but even if I didn't why would that make a difference. There aren't 4 different part numbers for these O2 sensors are there? There are only 2 - one for the front set and one for the rear set. So why would it matter if left went to right and right went to left?
This might work... Try swapping the rear O2 connectors. What I mean is plug the drivers O2 into the passenger side connector and vice-versa. If you get the same code then the problem is on the vehicle side of the harness. If you get code P0056 then it's a bad O2.
