i would check it every three months or 3000 miles. funny thing is since i street drive and track race i check it every few weeks when tracking. been threw the fall spring wind farmers plowing kicking up dust, maple whirlley birds, pollen, spring summer fall backroad driving, when every bug in the world is hiting your car from the lights. and everytime i check it is clean. i think it is just to far to travel up the tube at idle and when you stop most things fall down because i do see sand in the lower section. i just tap it and rinse it out
