Default Honker Template Placement

I just got a Honker and am looking throught the install instructions. It looks like the template needs to be lined up left to right by actually placing honker onto the radiator pins and putting tape on the shroud around the airbox. Throuble is, I had a Vararam and removed it and went back to the stock airbox. I have been running with my shroud cut for the Vararam since I removed it. I bought a new shroud from Fred Beans but it looks like I'm going to have to remove the cut Vararam shroud, install the new shroud, mark off where the honker airbox sits, remove the new shroud to cut and re-install.

Anyone see a better way around this process? Maybe see where the Honker sits on the cut vararam shroud and transpose that onto the new shroud?

I had the VR on for a few days and ended up switching to the Honker. Had to remove the cut shroud for the VR, install the new shroud and template it for the honker, remove it for riveting and re-install it. PIA but it guarantees a correct fit IMO. I trimmed the shroud at the bottom on each side to make it easier to remove and install.

Oh well. Guess I'll become a pro at removing the shroud. you're right that this is the only way to gaurantee the correct fit although it seems like it would be consistent from car to car to allow them to make a template that you could align top to bottom and left to right, not just top to bottom.

Default Oh no - not twice! Ahhh!

I have installed a VR on a C5 and a Honker on a C6 and I have two thoughts in addition to what I said in the title.
1. it is possible that the hole in the shroud for the VR which is smaller may fit inside the hole for the Honker. and therefore,
2. If I were doing it I would mark up the existing cut shroud for the VR and transpose/measure them onto the new shroud regardless of where the new hole lands.

You poor boy! I also envy your determination. Removing and installing a radiator shroud has to be one of the most annoying things you can do to a C6.
