Ported LS2 throttle body, need a tune IMMEDIATELY ?
At least a couple of our respected Forum Supporting Vendors, Cory Harris and Jeremy Formato, make a good case for the ported throttle body on the LS2 to improve throttle response at small to medium throttle application.
My pending question is: Can I install one of these and run for a week or two before making it to my tuner to get an optimization tune?
Will it just throw a CEL but keep on running just fine?
Will it go into reduced power "limp home" mode?
Will nothing happen?
The SAFE approach is to keep the ported TB in the box until I arrive at the tuners, but timing issues and getting the core back to the vendor play a role here as well.
Current mods on the engine are trivial: B&B Rt 66 and X-pipe; 160F thermostat.
Thanx in advance for the excellent help I know is forthcoming .

while, you're at it, try rotating your maf 90 degress to align the diffusor and the throttle body. give it a shot, ain't gonna hurt nothing, got nothing to lose and well get to see if it makes a diff. i did mine so long ago i've forgotten how it ran basically stock.
All you need to do is disconnect your negative battery cable during the TB swap or pull your pcm fuse.
My ported TBs do not cause any codes.
I would hold off on the tune until you do another mod.
Ported TB price is $120 plus exchange. Let me know if I can help you!
Put on both the ported TB and intake. Car runs better and no codes..... I will eventually do a tune, but I need to upgrade to a CAI and add headers first. Cory is THE man!!!!!
no need to disconnect the battery, it will erase all your LTFT, knock learn...ect. unless that is what you want. i have ported tb for over 6 months w no tune, no code & no issue. so, you don't have to rush to get a tune.

how bad does it mess up your tune if you have to unhook battery. if you have to change the battery or unhook it to weld a rollbar in

from an over all drivability, not much at all, to give you an example lets say, you ecm has learn 5* of KR under wot, then you go reset the battery / ecm, now you just gain back that 5* of timing back on your first wot, after a few wot you will be back at 5* KR again. ltft same thing, you lean it out since ecm has no clue you have mods like headers, intake...ect. after a while it will learn to rich the A/f, that is why you will see guys with mods running stock tune in the + ltft...you reset the ecm the ltft just went back to "0", it will need to relearn again.
It depends how agressive the port job might be. You might experience some idle issues (RPM's might hunt for a bit), especially when coming to a stop from a roll. Another issue might be "idle hang-up" during up-shifts.

this only happen when you remove material from the wrong area.
so thats all it learns. what about all the other info the tuner puts in. or does the knock retard only goes off of knock not wear the tunner has timming set

what tuner does are hard code in there. it is kind like a rewriteable cd / dvd disk. some turner goes as far as making our high octane table as the low octane table....then for the high octane table, they add as much as they feel the car can / might take. i won't mention any name here, some tuner even goes out and adds tons of timing, so your low rpm is like "wow" what a pick up in tq, then high rpm it will ping like crazy, but the tuner relies on the KR to pull the timing out and save the motor. this isn't the way i would want to tune....
