I put a LS2 in my 65 Coupe and have a belt squeal, everything looks aligned. I spray some belt dressing on it and it stops for a minute or so. Anyone have a tip to track down what is making the belt squeal? I do not have much experience with these belt systems.
it's probally the tensioner. I've heard of a few guys getting them replaced with the squeal and it's fixed afterwards.
Step one will be getting a new Goodyear Gatorback belt, they say these are the only ones that work. Second will be the tensioner. Thanks for the tips. Tim
My suggestion is to check that all pulleys are properly seated. I don't own a vette, but I had a similar problem with my Silverado when I swapped in the 6.0L. The power steering pump pulley was not seated by 1/16 of an inch and it would squeal like a stuck pig. I went through 2 or 3 belts before I found the problem.
BTW, the new belt would quieten the squeal for about 50-70 miles, but it would return. Belt dressing would quieten it for a few seconds.
Make sure the crank pulley is running true. With the engine running the ribs of the pulley should look stationary with a flashlight. It should have zero wobble. The flexible coupling in mine was bad and the pulley had to be replaced. Would start to chirp 70 miles into a new belt.

Good luck
I'm going to pull the belt this week and get a Gatorback, so I'll check the pullies and make sure they are seated all the way down and spin them to see if they are making any noise. Thanks for the help. Tim

I'll try the light trick to see if there is any wobble in the crank pulley, someone else said to also make sure it is on tight, that they had the bolt come loose. The light is a good idea to see if it is running straight, I think the crank pulley is off an 2002 camaro as that is where some fo the parts came from that were used. Thanks for the help. Tim

Just remember that the new belt will probably stop the squeal for a few miles...which means you'll have to take a road trip to really test it out
As a side note, I believe belt dressings are only for the v shaped belts, and not for the serpentine drive belts.
Tried it and it worked only for a few minutes. I'm from the V belt days, so I will remove the belt, buy a Goodyear Gatorback belt, they say those are the ones that work. I'll check the pullies to see if they are seated and spin straight as well without noise. The next will be the tensioner will be replaced. I'm hoping one of those does the trick. Thanks for the help.
