How do I upgrade to newer disk? I've heard they mail you one when a year old. Bought my 06' A6 in April 2006 & have heard nothing.
They were slow in sending a postcard giving you a confirmation number to imput on NAV order site, it seems they were 2 - 3 months slow on the postcard, but I did get one and ordered the disk and received it.
There has been nothing worth while or cost since rev 1,2, 3 (I have all) and thanks I did not have to pay $200 for a worthless disk. I dont use the Nav really anyway but it came with the car. Too bad GM is not up to date with quality like Acura but that is a whole other topic. Guess we should be thankful they even have Nav as the Viper does not. Any hoot that is my 2c

The updates are just as bad as the original version. There are changes that should be on there which are several years old and you can tell by the wear and tear on the road that the changes in the road were made years ago but the updates are not there. I have streets in my neighborhood which were built years ago and are not on the disk. I have heard others with the same complaints. I had one instant in an old, old town with the one way street running or marked in the wrong direction on the navigation.
I have an Acura TL and like the Nav that they source from Alpine better.
I can tell you however, the upgrade disc from them costs you for each and every one so no free ride. In that regard GM is doing better by us.
SR p.s. anyone know what they want when they ask for control number?
I got a new disc about a month ago. Better useability, but they still spell my street wrong. Works well for the most part.
Bought my used '06 in April with the old disc and got the new one after.

It is the authorization they send you on a postcard so you can order the disk from their NAV center. If I remember correctly, the card comes from one place giving you the control number or whatever they call it so they, the NAV center, have the authorization to send you the so called updated disk.
