Hi forum members I'm having some trouble with one of my rear tires. I began noticing that my rear right tires tread is way lower than the left rear. I was in an accident a while back and was hit on that rear quarter panel. I've always had this in the back of my head that the guy must have hit the wheel which in turn bent the wheel hub.
Another strange thing that happens is when i occasionally WOT the car from 40 to about 80 the rear breaks loose to the left always at around 80 though. My friends always ask me why the car does that. I've always thought it could be the 19x11 ZO6 replicas that I have on the car.
First, you should take your car to have an alignment done on all for corners. Choose a shop or dealership that knows what they are doing. My guess is your right rear is out of alignment. Be sure they align the rear and then the front in that order.
Second, they should be able to remove the rear wheel and do a runout test to see if it is straight. They can test all four wheels. If you have directional tires, make sure that they are rotating in the right direction.
Since your car was hit on that right rear quarter, the repair shop should have done all of this but who knows.
Uneven tire wear can be caused by one or combination of factors....incorrect inflation pressure; bad alignment; bad wheel balance; & bent or out of round wheel/tire. Each needs to be checked. I would suspect from your description that it's the alignment or a bent wheel. If you have the wheel set up on a balancing machine, you can see immediately as it spins, whether it's bent.
